Viktor Postol is a really good fighter, in my eyes. Herrera had an odd, tough style for Danny to make it interesting, but ultimately Danny Garcia would be too good for him and win the fight. I think Viktor Postol, as well, has a tough style for Danny, but in a different way. Herrera has a granite chin, a solid jab, and a slickness to fight on the inside with limited power. Postol, though, is a tall 140 pounder with a tremendous stiff jab from the outside and a great work rate. I could see him giving Danny fits from the outside, which is usually Garcias comfort zone. This will be a very interesting fight, and IMO (barring more film study, etc), a fight I could see going Postols way: Danny Garcia has not fought a fighter as tall as Postol, who can fight with him on the outside. Garcia is not the fastest nor the most powerful fighter. He is not very skilled, but very fundamentally sound and tremendous timing. Usually he capitalizes on fighters mistakes, time them, and land counter shots. Postol is also incredibly fundamentally sound with a great stiff jab. Couple his ability to play chess with Danny (very few can), plus his superior physical capabilities, it could be interesting. Postol has a high work rate. Danny Garcias workrate is limited (usually about 600-800 punches per twelve rounds). Postol average more than 100 punches a round in his last fight. I could see Postol outworking Danny from the outside, giving him tons of fits. Now, on the other hand Garcia will not be hurt by Postol. Postol seems to be a solid puncher, better than his record shows, but Garcia has a granite chin. Also Garcia is far more experienced and a battle tested fighter. I see this fight being close. Postol giving Garcia fits early with his jab. I think Garcia times his better in the later rounds, gather some points. I think itll be close, about 6-6 or 7-5 Postol. The fight could go Dannys way possibly even if he does not deserve the win. This does not make up for the fight with Salka, too me, anyway. But it is a very good and competitive fight so Im going to lay off criticizing Garcia for the time being.
Too bad it's not happening... Postol's footwork and lateral movement factors into all of that just as much. He's a very good mover that will be constantly turning Danny which doesn't make it as easy for him to plant his feet and just time guys who come straight to him the way he likes and because of Viktor's size he can land his punches from a safe distance outside Garcia's range. That aspect is just as important as his size and workrate.
I’ve only seen Postol fight once, but he seemed solid, rangy. I’m not picking him like some above, but it’s a decent fight and a mandatory, so I’m down with it.
