In a recent interview on Fight Hub TV featuring Lomachenko he stated that the Garcia fight must take place at 135, plainly due to the fact that 140 is just too big for him. However, he was doubtful that Garcia will go back down to anything below 140. What do you guys think will happen? This is obviously a mega, mega fight if it can be made, but if it all hinges on Garcia going back down two weight divisions to 135 what do you all think the likelihood is of this happening?

I don't expect the fight to happen in a hurry, but a catchweight could be a possibility. Mikey can make 135 lb if he has to but I don't think he would want to.

Loma's already well smaller than Mikey even at 135, no need to give up extra weight advantages.

I really doubt it happens now with Mikey probably heading towards 140 for a while, where he's in the mix for the top spots and seems like a comfortable weightclass for him.

Loma really should be flexible on this and offer a catch-weight of 137.

MG had a hard time getting to 135 against Robert Easter and a hard time getting on top of Easter as a result. Since then he has bulked up to ww and will never again fight at 135. He would even have to put in a lot of hard work to make 140. It's only a technicality that he jumped 2 divisions to fight Spence. At 31 years of age he is now a natural ww even if he is a small ww. This fight will never happen.

Lomas already a weight above where he should be fighting in my opinion.

Doesnt matter. Loma will feast on the remains left by Spence. He will ravage Garcia man.

Mikey killed this fight with his “daring to be great” against Spence.
Now he can never make 135 again.
At 140 Loma would be vastly undersized

Mikey looked quite “padded” at 147. On the outside looking in, I fail to see why he can’t make 135 comfortably.

That may be the case. I just know that even some high end athletes can struggle with dieting discipline. My limited understanding of the science behind weight loss is that no one is beyond it (stripping fat) unless there’s a medical reason. Train hard, eat a balanced diet, but at a deficit of your maintenance level, and the weight will come off. Obviously there are tricks to make sure that your metabolism doesn’t drop, but that’s another conversation.

it will be at 135. mikey will want a cw, after reestablishing his standing in his next fight at 140. arum will counter with more money but 135, and mikey will take it.

I think the ship has sailed. Mikey got a taste of the money at 147, so I doubt he wants to go back down to 135 just for 1 fight against Loma that might not happen and 140 is a mediocre division with nothing to offer. He’d be better off at taking a few easy fights at 147, since he could do well and maybe even win a title if he adjust better to the weight.
