I don't see any reason to be resentful towards a rematch, but just imo, in my perspective, Garcia went into the lions den (in that he fought Matthysse when nobody else wanted to, whether he had to or not is not the point) and he won. It was a grueling fight for both guys, but Garcia won clearly (albeit in a dirty manner, in a competitive fight)

But Lucas was not the champion, Danny was. Lucas was a challenger, and he was beaten by the champion.

Danny now has the right to move on to other things.... and not have to have another potential career shorten type fight against Lucas again, a challenger he just clearly beat. With the way these two fight, having multiple fights against eachother is a recipe for 'never being the same' afterwards, especially if it turns out to be a trilogy.

Why should Danny, or his fans (not boxing fans, but Danny Garcia fans) want that, when he just clearly beat Matthysse.

Idk, I like Matthysse, and as much as a rematch would be another awesome fight, I think Danny has earned the right to move on now onto other fights and fighters.

    Fair point ...well made Kirk.
Indeed, and that is exactly the reasoning I would be using too, if I was Garcias manager. Thing is though...I'm not. ...are you?
The fans are calling for a rematch. Don't the fans count anymore?

You can't deny that a lot of the posts on this thread are very bitter and nasty.......just read a few from the start.
One poster in particular is very rude.
Don't know where all this attitude is coming from.
Good luck to Danny and Lucas.
I would like to see a rematch, that's all!

I would like to see a rematch but I am leaning towards that it would look much the same. But who knows, I know its a good fight and as a boxing fan Id like to see it.

But also, while I am not Garcias manager, obviously, I do feel and recognize that Garcia has already earned the right to put Matthysse behind him, and as a boxing fan I would also like to see him move forward into other intriguing fights.

But of course, a rematch, just like any fight with two big punchers with offensive styles and good chins, would be explosive and fun for the viewers. And could always lead to the first real good trilogy of the new era.

114-112 for Garcia. It was a close competitive fight, and Matthysse deserves a lot of credit for coming to Garcia's country and fighting on even terms with him. In Argentina, it would have been different, probably a close decision win for Lucas.

Also Matthysse got unlucky in round 11 when he got caught in the ropes.

I still think Matthysse will be back and it will be interesting to see if team garcia are interested in a rematch I doubt it.

It was a very close fight and if Lucas stays on his feet in the 11th it is no worse than a draw. In fact, he woulda won, bad eye and low blows aside. But, I give credit to the Garcia kid. He won and the spoils be his.

Oh yeah, the 11th round knockdown came from a rabbit punch also....

Garica didn't clearly win anything. Perhaps your eyes are cr@ppy.

The 11th was a dominant round for Matthysse before the knockdown, so it ended up being even after it.
The 12th was a Garcia round (IMO) based on Danny's output and crisp combination punching, despite Matthysse being the aggressor. In other words, Lucas was forcing the action but Danny was controlling the action.

100% agree. This is why I believe that Matthysse should just move on and focus on wrecking **** at 140 once Danny inevitably moves up...assuming of course he doesn't desperately need the money a rematch would bring.

Danny's chin really surprised a lot of people. That punch in the 11th would have (at least) dropped 90% of the consensus top 10 at 140/147 and Danny, while clearly hurt by the punch, just shook it off and got back to work. If Matthysse can't hurt Garcia, I really don't know how he can win.

If this fight happened the same way in Argentina, Danny would've been robbed.

It wasn't the fight of the night. It was a good fight that lived up to the hype, that's it.
