Just thought get some opinions on this subject?? Watched the Contender final and couldn't believe my eye's..I watched the Wood V Oginoff and was in complete dismay at the way in which Garth Wood fights. I have never seen someone get away with such dirty tactics in my opinion I dont think it's fair to allow the leaning and one punch clinching however if you are going to allow it then I dont see how you would score in favour of the boxer like they did tonight against Kariz. I had kariz by a point IMO only because Wood continuously ramed him with his shoulder in the stomach and the repeated hits after the clinch were against him IMO. So does anyone else have an opinion on the tactics used by Wood not weather its smart you do what you do to win but this standup fighting and punching on angles and credibility for a man to man fight is what seperates us from UFC and MMA the gracefullness is what i love about the sport but this is the dirtest style i have seen besides headbuts and elbows which are common in boxing!
You have no idea if you scored that fight for kariz. He was out on his feet several times...garth landed the cleaner shots all fight. Garth does wrestle a lot but kariz did nothing to stop him coming forward.
Not really champ he only won by a point well i had it a draw till the last round aswell however i scored in favour of Kariz in the last because wood thew one punch then grappled every time same thing one punch grapple so based on that i would have scored against him for inactivity IMO ( not to mention either diqualifying him or deducting points for the four times he punched after the clinch). again only my opinion!
I was surprised to see it go to an SD. I thought Woods won pretty easily. I thought before the fight Kariz would win quite easily but was surprised how disinterested he seemed for most of the fight and the thing that stood out most was that he looked like he had no idea how to fight on the inside. Woods landed many more meaningful shots and deserved the win no doubt. Mundine will beat him easily though.
Woods style is not pretty and probably lucky he didn't get a point deducted, however i still had him getting the win in my opinion..... he outbullied Kariuz.
Garth is just a terrible boxer to watch, I just hate the whole punch, punch grapple. As much as I hate to admit it though I think he won, although like the Oganov fight I think he should've been deducted (more) points. I think Mundine will win by an early stoppage there is no way those tactics are going to work against Mundine.
I believe mundine actually called Wood a dirty fighter in the oginov fight. Being both from rugby back grounds should be a good UFC fight!
I can't see how kariz could have won the fight......didn't land with enough clean punches. But i agree woods should have been deducted a point at least once...that late kidney shot after the ref called break was nasty.
I give Woods a solid chance against Mundine. Woods should improve, he has only has 7-8 fights. But in saying that, he needs to improve a lot. Mundine is on the decline though and wouldnt hold up to a solid punch, the guy dont like getting hit.
wood isnt pretty to watch- but he did what he had to do to win. he wasnt going to outslick kariz. i think choc should outclass him pretty easily. i think kariz would have been more difficult for choc to fight - but he just didnt pump the jab- or use his distance very well. wood has got amazing jaw and engine too- definetely has all the physical tools to go the distance with choc.
Please explain............Kessler 32 Ko's from 42 wins, Antwun Echols 27 Ko's from 31 wins, Danny Green 25 Ko's from 28 wins. Some real big punchers mate, I know he got Ko'd by sven ottke but that was a temple hit could happen to any boxer out there that dont protect there head, Anthony mundine had greatly improved his defences since then not awsome but the guy can take punch i think he proved this by one KO in 41 outings!! Garth Woods will not be able to wrestle anthony mundine and punch garth woods ducks his head and gets them with that right hand everytime after hitting them hard with shoulder to the stomach, mundine puts that left arm elbow out pretty wide which restrict alot huge right hands he has that pretty well down pact, Garth unfortunitly cuts too easy and mundine will slice him up pretty bad and garth also runs out of a lot of steam by the middle rounds he was really spent after 5 against oginov and he really looked spent after the 7th with kariuz so i see him getting knocked out by the 8th!! IMO:good
