Oi, is this kid the goods? He's 8 fights into a career that began as he was pushing 30, and has already won the Aussie 168lb version of The Contender (which featured even more Aussies than the American 168lb The Contender! ) Here he is claiming his highest-profile scalp to date in the show's semi-final bout: [yt]stTy0e4Kyh8[/yt] I like the punches in bunches, and his right hand is respectable - but the recklessness and lack of any sense of controlling distance are off-putting. What's the kid's background, and how bright is his future as a late bloomer?
He used to play in the NRL I think hes going to go well on the domestic level because hes strong and tough....he lacks boxing brains and needs time to train with good people around him. Hes a big SMW and will give trouble to more than just a few boxers......the first good counter puncher he faces he will get owned provided they can cope with his reckless style. He will smash Taylor when they fight....I would like to see him fight Les Sherington.
Goods my ****ing arse! Horrendous to watch and if he hadn't played rugby league he never would have won the pathetic thing should have been DQ'd in the final. Karriuki was reffed out of the contest
wood will make it hard for anyone to win againts him.hes got an awkward style like sam solomon.but les sherrington would still smach him.
I don't know about the 'reffed out of the contest' comments, I think you'll find the numeorus right hand bombs Wood smashed Kariuki with in the first 2 rounds, followed by the closing rounds had a hell of a lot more influence on the decision than the ref. I'm still trying to recall what you think warranted being DQ'd in the final? Garth is brave and fights like a lion, will continue to get better and good luck to him for earning his shot at Mundine and the payday that comes with it. 8 fights as a pro, what do you all expect from him? We should be all getting behind the bloke in his quest for higher honours, whatever they end up being. Clean living, down to earth champion bloke and doing what he loves to help better his lot and his family, big props to him. :bbb
Tend to agree on this.....everybody says hes green and to an extend they are right....hes raw....but you cant be "too raw" if you can beat Victor and Kariz....I mean boxing is just not that easy....right? Even over 7 rounds....a pro will samsh a green fighter If woods was like a normal fighter of 8 fights Victor would have stopped him in 2 or 3 rounds and Kariz the same
We all shake our heads as boxing fans at Rugby League players coming over and being an embarrassement (cue Carl Webb!), yet here is a bloke who ironically, boxing was his first love as a kid, idolising the likes of Jeff Fenech but his father Barry (a champion bloke too and biggest supporter!) didn't want him to be involved in the fight game and hence he moved his attention to Rugby League. Wood finished with Rugby League and has now got the opportunity as his own man to move back to his boxing love and do something with it. ****en hell, everyone bagging him should shut there mouths and applaud him for his efforts. Efforts I assume are a damm sight bigger than some on here and their keyboard exploits! Go Garth!
