    Just announced! Official for January 22nd of 2022 on Showtime. WBC featherweight title on the line, sixth defense of Russell. Magsayo is ranked #3 and the WBC is considering this a mandatory fulfillment.

    GRJ hasn't fought since before the start of the pandemic, in early February of 2020. As of fight night it will be his longest professional layoff, just a fortnight shy of two full years.

    The challenger is a live-and-die-by-the-sword Filipino, currently 23-0 (16). He will have a 1½″ height and 4" reach advantage over the champion.

    Honestly, with two years off, having struggled with Nyambayar, and now facing a hungry warrior 7 years his junior...this could really be a rake-step for GRJ.

    Yeah, unfortunately Magsayo does go down more often than a varsity cheerleader. If he's the same old speed and sharpness I'd agree, but there's daylight for Mags if Russ is rusty.

    I suspect GRJ will get up for this fight as he knows his place place/relevance in the sport is hanging by a thread and a loss will end him. GRJ UD, but he could get dropped.
