i know most of us on here have enjoyed watching gary buckland over the last decade, he is a true fighter that will engage with anyone! but at the young age of 29 and after that defeat to sean dodd his career looks to be over. he looks shopworn and before anyone says it i know he has had tough wars but could his coaches done more to help preserve him? it is well documented that he is very uneducated, didn't go to school etc but his coaches are smart enough and let him away with things like sparring with no headgear or gum shield etc the way he fought his career wouldn't have been the longest but having gym wars certainly didn't help him with his sharp demise and imo his coaches should have done more. thoughts?
knowing gary , he wouldnt wear a headguard if u payed him , and is the nicest quietest guy you could ever meet ... that being said hes never been in the type of condition a top athlete should be , and at lightweight hes been beat everytime hes faced a higher level ... he had an untelevised war with richard commey whos rated top 5 and has a monster ko % , buckland went 12 and hasnt looked the same since that fight imo . Also take into account when sparring with no headguard hes sparring the selbys , cordinas ,mcdgoldricks , frankie borgs etc not exactly the mike tysons of the world . if he makes super feather hes more than capable of another british title run ! one things for sure gary hiself will tell you the trainers are to thank not blame , he was supposed to fight for a wbc silver title on the murray martinez bill but the ring collapsed , i think hes done well to reach the heights he has and should be applauded .
