i think this is the type of opponent our prospects need on a consisitant level. The mexican never had a good record but he could fight and gave buckland a good test.

The mexican was much better than those imports from eastern europe and some of the very average guys coming in from africa.

I know money might be the problem in getting these guys to the uk but more efforts should be made to get better opposition for our prospects as it will only make them better fighters.

i remember reading the barry mcguigan book when he went to the states earlier in his career to gain experience against the american and mexican styles , this also can be an idea when a big british name is fighting abroad.

that usa vs uk thing they done a few years ago with prospects could be done again , i think those fights were in vegas or california

Yep i suppose part of reason we get lativians is because of Visa's and stuff like that for Mexican's (is that true?) so it's easier and cheaper to use these poor eastern europeans but your prospects are worth the effort and Buckland's opponent actually making him work and is trying to win.

Your right about experiencing different styles but also in old days Journeyman would teach a youngster tricks. Rough him up, Stay with him in exchanges. Make him miss and laugh aka Peter Buckley. So many lil things picked up. Nowadays we get guys who wouldn't even beat a novice amateur it's that bad.

yea defo, but from the promotes point of view some prospects would get found out alot quicker, but still, they'd be great learning fights.

i don't know some trainers dont do tours of mexico, even just for the sparring and the experience

Yeah totally agree mate. Part of problem why our lads get found out at certain levels because they haven't had gutchecks etc.

The trainers should go on tours to also learn from likes of Nacho Beristain.

yea defo, there must be loads in Gyms in the boxing hotbeds like Mexico City, Los Mochis, Tijuana and Guadlajara. they could just do a tour of 1 city and get a real feel for the work ethic and training Techniques.

did u ever see that video of those 2 yanks training in Mexico

The Mexicans often turn pro early and can get matched heavily early on (e.g. Margarito was 12-3), so they're better than their records quite often.
