Gary Cornish - Coming to Win...?

That's why having a good team around you helps in negotiations, too many managers/coaches are willing to cash out without fighting their boxers corner. Gary's team had a figure in mind when they were asked about the Joshua fight and stuck to their guns until they got what they think Gary is worth.

Gary will be there to win come fight night, if he isn't good enough then he can't help that but at least he has the fire in his belly that some others coming to fight Anthony haven't.

This challenge is no different to Hector Avilla and no chance Fast Car is forking out £260k for this farce.

Where is the evidence?

 

The marketability of Gary Cornish vs Anthony Joshua is on a totally different scale to that of Hector Avilla who came into the fight with a record of 22-15-1, is 6ft 1in and is an Argentinian that nobody cares about.

Gary Cornish is a 6ft 7in unbeaten prospect that is Scottish. That gives you much more to catch the general publics eyes.

That is 3 reasons that the fight makes much more money and sense for Matchroom. If Anthony Joshua is able to blow Gary out in under a round there will be casuals thinking that AJ is ready to take on Klitschko and big stadium fights will be just around the corner. That's why he's worth £250k +

Dillian Whyte won't get paid half that amount because he has been chasing the fight with AJ and by doing that they have taken away fome of their bargaining chips. If Dillian Whyte didn't accept their offer then he would be ridiculed and called a coward because he has been chasing AJ. That is where Gary's team have been smart they haven't called out AJ and his team have told Eddie what they need for the fight to happen and not accepted a low ball offer.

At the end of the day it has already been said on this thread, just because we don't think Gary Cornish should get paid that for the fight his team value him at that and they have played a great hand and got their charge a life changing amount of money. Kudos to them and in boxing you take what you can get!!

 

As mentioned I too would bet Cornish is being paid south of £60k, probably quite a bit south. £40k and maybe some kind of performance bonus would seem nearer the mark.

I hope Cornish can offer a challenge, but from what I have seen of him, he is going to have produce a performance way above anything he has done so far, and hope Joshua is off his game.

 

Don't think there is many down here really bothered about the England v Scotland 'rivalry' as it died a death years ago due to the lack of decent Jock Sportsmen/Jocketts.

Very few down here view Cornish any different from Avilla.

He has done very well to get that figure if true but I cannot believe it without evidence.

AJ going nowhere near Klitschko as he is on a slow boat of cans to ensure Klit is safely out the way before he challenges for the World Title.

It is all about PPV shyte fights in the future for Hearn and AJ.

 

Lets all just enjoy the fight and hope that Gary can take AJ somewhere he hasn't been before in a professional ring. All I know is he is getting the figures that has been mentioned and I know there will always be people that believe and people that don't. At the end of the day the money being paid is irrelevant and I just wish both lads the best.

 

Throwing a punch at AJ would be a start but I wonder if this is allowed per the 'agreement'.

Not a single punch thrown at AJ in any fight so far and an absolute farce.

 

I can guarantee that Gary has belief he can win and will come to win but he has never been on this kind of stage before so I just hope he doesn't freeze under the pressure!!

 

Well said David, better fighgters than Gary have froze on the big stage Lucain Bute for example, i beleive we all went overboard with Carls performance that night, Carl handled the occasion Bute never simple

 

That may have been part of the reason, but Bute had been on the 'big stage' for a while previous, so should have been use to the environment.

I would concede when Bute realized he could not dominate Froch, the pressure may have got to him, but that too, had at an awful lot to do with Carl's excellence that night.

 

Im not saying for a minute anything about Carl's ability but what i beleive is Bute's bottle crashed on the night, his shoulders were nearly up at his ear with tension, in turn this made it so much easier for Carl

 

An ASDA check out girl if paid enough would also 'come to win' but like Cornish would also have no boxing ability to back it up.

 

People think Cornish is making well over a 100 large for this fight. What a joke. He clearly won't make even 50'000 for this. Cornish is arguably not even on Tom Dallas's level or former marketability.
