One of the more underappreciated heavyweights of the past 25-30 years, a man who was a stable mate of Bruno's who in all honesty might be just as famous as Bruno if he had been afforded all the same chances of Frank without a crippling career ending eye injury. I can't imagine he'd be anything but a top ten, even top five heavyweight in this day and age. A top shelf chin and big power take you a long way in the heavyweight division. Can't say I'm familiar with him, but your description is tantalizing, and I'm interested to see if I'll agree.
He took as many flush Lewis bombs as anyone, and never went down or froze up as far as I remember. It wasn't his chin that let him down that night but his defense. Very impressive looking fighter, definitely check him out even beyond my uploads. He was a very exciting heavyweight for a number of years and was looked at as Bruno's equal when they were on the up and up, though their careers couldn't of played out any more differently.
A very underrated fighter hard hitting with decent hand speed and rock solid chops .Good guy too RIP champ.
I watched a few of Gary s fight s on his way up .I was anticipating a Bruno fight at some point ,in a battle of Britain .Would have being a hard ,taxing fight .When the fight with Lewis was announced I believed at that point that Mason would do the business and move on up. I don't believe many truly got behind Lennox till he beat Razor ,so I was a little amazed how good Lewis was .But Gary went down to defeat with respect, he never gave up trying against a future ATG.He died way to young .
Gary Mason was solid HW contender. He lacked elite punching power (despite his very high KO %) and was relatively slow but had good skills and iron chin. He actually was very game against young Lennox and it was a very close fight, Gary never looked shaken or hurt by Lennox's bombs. He had a bad cut and was unlucky that the fight had to be stopped. Had to retire at young age, but far more sad is that Mason's life was so short and ended in that terrible accident.
Dillian Whyte level fighter, very good , just not Lennox level , but then who was ... I think he was killed in a road accident whilst riding a bike. RIP , a good man.
