sorry to hear about gary mason. A bit of an overreaction to what Billy posted as well. I don't hink I'm into micking thedead but geezo, sometimes you have to be careful who you comment on when they pass. i'm sure some who have ****ed him have had a wee bit of joke at someone else who's dieds' expense. Hey ho. Billy, wait until someone else mocks first next time and I hope you've learnt your lesson.
I've been very happy, though, to see so much coverage and kind words about Mason. I hope he had an inkling when he was alive of just how much fondness there was for him.
I loved the guy myself and he was always one of my favourite boxers. I remember ordering some 'Special' handraps he had invented or he endorsed (I can't remember) and inclosed was a free Gary Mason cartoon t-shirt with Garys gloves like 2 bombs with burning fuses. Brilliant obituary by Bunce I was close to tears. RIP
Anyone who thinks writing's easy should try to top Buncey's piece. You can't. A fitting tribute to a fine man.
I was tuned into boxing at the time when the heavyweight scene in Britain was Bruno, Gary, Oyebola, Sweet D Williams, Horace Notice... Guys like Lennox and Akinwande were starting out.. One of the first fights i ever attended live was Gary boxing at the Albert Hall.. He was a better boxer than most of the others, never as well conditioned but a great man with a heart as big as a truck.. Everyone loved Gary.. Its a massive loss... He is missed terribly by me and everyone who knew him..
