Both in their primes, who takes this one and how? I think this one would have been a barn burner while it lasted! I’ll take Mason in a mid to late rounds stoppage. Discuss
I have to go with whyte to win. While Dillian leaves a lot to be desired Mason’s opposition was about as weak as it gets.
This would be a hugely competitive fight where the styles would blend beautifully. Neither guy is particularly fast or subtle but they both carry good power and like to fight. Mason's problem here is that the advantages in size, weight and power he enjoyed during his career would not be there against Whyte. Dillian would actually be bigger and heavier that Gary and there probably isn't a great deal of difference in power. Another problem for Mason is that he, like stablemate Frank Bruno, was very sympathetically matched. To give Whyte credit, he has had really tough fights against the likes of Joshua, Chisora and Parker. Mason's only truly tough fight was his very brave but losing effort against a still slightly green Lennox Lewis. Of course, with the Heavyweights, anyone can be got but my pick would be Whyte anytime after the eighth.
Mason. Very patient and would take all Whyte could offer early in a borefest but stop him in about 8.
