Having been only young in the late 80s / early 90s, was this fight ever seriously talked about ? I saw a recent interview with Bruno saying he never won a British title as Mason was around and so he went for the European. Tho those timelines seem way off, so likely Bruno getting confused.

Would Big Frank have had too much for him?

They were at their peaks at the same time, I remember after Bruno got beat in his first bout by Tyson, they interviewed Mason at ringside and were asking him if he`d like to fight Tyson and he said yes, he could have fought Frank then, it would have been a close fight, Mason had a better chin and good power, there`s a good chance that he would have knocked Frank out as he was easy to hit, Frank kept guys off with his long jab though and he had a massive reach that would have been a problem for Mason and he couldn`t slip the jab or counter, so Frank would have outjabbed him but also would have gassed and that`s when Mason would most likely have stopped him, unles he could cling on as he did at the end of the McCall fight, I`d say Mason and McCall were very similar fighters.

As mark says , there were story s swilliring around that they d fight . Shame it didn't , but course Mason went on to lose too Lewis and Frank got the belt .
In an actual fight I agree with the above ,A tired Bruno , after leading ,is stopped by Mason .

The big difference would have been Bruno's jab imo .

It was not going to happen, both were Lawless fighters. They sparred, and for what it is worth, Bruno was supposedly dominant. Which is not surprising as Bruno was a top 20 Heavyweight and Mason a novice.

By the time Mason became a viable opponent Bruno was getting ready for Tyson and then after that defeat in 89, deciding weather to continue. By the time he was back looking for meaningful fights, Mason had the eye damage and was not going to get a BBB of C licence.
