Yes me too. I think some refs might have let it go on a little longer, but you only need the most rudimentary understanding of body language to realize it would've been very unwise to do so.
I love that the thumbnail is just Spike absolutely smashing Douglas on the griill with a big powerfully turned-over hook, all while Douglas is clearly up to something with his arm positioning but whatever it was, a planned movement or set of movements utterly foiled & undone by Spike's pressure and power. Just says it all about the fight.
I take it all turned out ok with Douglas then????? Few on here myself included thought he looked a bit dodge after the KO
Have not heard any bad news on Twitter, so probably fine at this point. If there was any scary issue (neurological etc) something would have been reported by now. The safety window is usually the next morning.
He was showcasing the all too familiar body language that's usually associated with TBI... Glad there was an experienced ref on hand who saved the guy from himself. With that kind of thing there's a very small window in which a ref needs to act...
Nah, only heads to Boston on the week of the fight. Did one camp [for Eubank fight] in America. He trains in the Celtic Warriors Gym in Corduff, Dublin. Commutes up from Cork (3 hour drive) and stays for the weekdays then home at the weekends. Stablemates/sparring partners include slick Dublin light middleweights Bernard Roe and Craig O'Brien - and formerly Frank Buglioni and Irish champion Luke Keeler. It would be the biggest gym in Dublin so lots of fighters visit for sparring. Over the last 2 years there has been Martin Murray, Dennis Hogan, Alex Hughes, and amateur phenom Michael Nevin.
What's that about being "glad" about the ref? Your "experienced ref" as you call him made a bawls of it mate! He was caught out of position at the end. Unforgivable. Some of the finishing punches went in so late they were almost in time for spikes next fight!
I could've sworn he put in a full camp here for one of the Murphy's shows in Melrose. I remember a couple years back him DMing me on Twitter that we could have a little go next time he was in town training for a fight.
