So, it turns out Spike was unable to goad Chris Eubank Jr. into offering him a date as his first voluntary challenger for the interim WBA title via taunting on social media and challenging his manhood. Pity. Anyway, the good news is that Spike, who scuppered plans to headline a Murphy's Boxing (as in, the Dropkick Murphy's, the band who did "Shipping Up To Boston", who now collectively promote boxing in my neck of the woods) in Melrose a fortnight ago in order to chase Eubank - leading to a very unsatisfactory replacement atop the bill of Danny O'Connor vs. Michael Clark  - will in fact be plying his trade around here in the near future. He is staying busy against 29-1 (23) Dominican slugger Vétancourd on the DeGale vs. Dirrell undercard @ Agganis Arena live on NBC. I will be there, screaming my head off for Spike and heckling Dirrell with obnoxious questions about how Dr. Shaw Hi is doing and whether he can look at my hangnail. :deal Vétancourd is...poor, but his record is nice enough (if stuffed with equal parts synthetic foam, staple fiber and microbeads) - more so than Spike's recent victims, and dismantling him to pick up the vacant WBA affiliated "NABA" title may just nudge Spike into the WBA top 15, where he shockingly isn't yet despite the presence of some inferior middleweights. Getting up in there could strongly improve his chances of forcing Eubank Jr.'s hand down the line. (do interim champs ever have to face mandatory challengers? Or just "regular" champs - or "super", in the WBA's case. :huh I'm not exactly sure how that works...) I'm finna get Vétancourd plasma ALL OVER ME. Better smuggle in a tarp. It'll be like sitting in front of the stage for a Gallagher show when he does the pumpkin smash.
It's decent of course but realistically Spike is competitive for a couple of rounds but Eubank pulls away easily enough.
Fair enough. I just we haven't truly seen the chin (or downstairs punch resistance, and Spike is a body snatcher) of CEJ tested very thoroughly. BJS is a talent but has feather-fists, and Chudinov is a grinder, not a 1-punch KO artist, and was hopelessly outmatched by Chris' speed and did n't get many chances to land with much dig.
Spike is a decent guy and gives anyone bar the top 10 something to think about but I have a feeling that Eubank could be special(has to be his own man and shrug off his fathers bull****) can you think of a harder matched novice? edit obviously ignoring everything apart from his last couple of fights
One person has Vétancourd lasting twelve? :think He was stopped in eight by David Toribio. Now, while an upper-crust journeyman, Toribio is nonetheless a journeyman. 21-14 (14) record.
