I heard a certain co-host on a certain boxing show talk about it in a conversation he had with Ken Hershman. I also read it on a couple of forums. Hence the "word around the campfire" term, instead of linking you to an article.

Hand speed, and that's only because of his midget arms on his 5'4 body. His foot speed is slow and his timing is terrible, even against terrible opposition.

Where do you get this idea that GRJ is a good boxer? He hasn't shown that against anyone on any level of boxing. Marroquin beat him as an amateur, Vodopyanov dominated him as an amateur in GRJ' most significant amateur fight. Wouldn't the amateur game favour a good boxer who is speedy?
GRJ is Berto/Jeff Lacy level, he's not world class and you'll see when he finally fights someone with a pulse. Salido would destroy him.

I doubt Salido would destroy him, actually i got money on that!! How can u call him Berto,Lacy level yet. he still got a long ways to go, u calling the man a bust before hes even got in a signfacnt fight yet! Just cause hes hasnt fought a big name yet doesnt mean he doesnt have skills. Hes gonna get his chance this year.

U can tell if somebody is a good boxer without tough competiton. its called the eye test dude, u dont see any talent in him?? I know, we all wish he would fight better people well hes gonna get his chance this year. Either he falls flat, like u think he is, or this is finally the time we see his greatness and who knows, start climbing the p4p list since he'll be finally fighting the tough comp

wether he's got small arms or not that doesnt matter, the ball has got hand speed. u can say his foot speed is bad and all that and thats fine. all i said is hes top 5 in speed in the sport and some have already backed me on that

I don't think you quite understand how poor his opposition has been. And on the eye test I don't rate him, he has looked very poor in some of his fights. His footwork is plodding, he doesn't transition between offence and defence well, he lacks offensive variation and creativity. He can be timed as seen in his last fight and he isn't particularly accurate with his punches. And that was against a terrible opponent. I'm not sure he is even Berto or Lacy calibre tbh. He has fought decent competition in the amateurs and he was beaten easily when it mattered. That combined with the fact he and his team don't want to step up and fight anyone is very telling. You don't just accidentally become a skilled boxer, you need to be constantly pushing yourself and elevating your game. If anything his skills would've deteriorated with his opposition in the pro game, he's not going to just step up to Lomachenko and Salido and do well.
GRJ has a bit of athleticism in terms of hand speed but he lacks boxing skill. And because of the level of his competition we know very little about his chin or his power. The fact that so many of his opponents have gone the distance indicates that he might actually be lacking power, which is what I believe at this point.
GRJ may surprise me and actually be competitive against the best, but I highly doubt it. I think it will be a very easy title defence for Lomachenko or Salido. I'd love for there to be a speedy southpaw with skills and power to enter the p4p list and provide quality match ups around featherweight while increasing the popularity of the sport in the US. I truly believe that GRJ is not going to be that guy.

He's only 5'4 and needs to get close to use that hand speed. If he doesn't have the foot speed to get close then that hand speed is useless. You're going to be disappointed in this guy if you think he's going to do anything.

GRJ has fast hands but the reach of a bantamweight. Loma has waaaayyyy
better foot movement and can hit GRJ with pretty much whatever
he wants. This is a no contest with GRJ having a slight punchers
chance. Nothing more. Skill sets are too far apart.

How can anybody say no contest with 1 pro fight from Lomachenko?? I dont care if hes been fighting semi pro. name a fighter that hes fought with GRJ skill set?? cant be one.

Now GRJ is the same way, hasnt fought anybody with Lomachenko skill set, and thas why you have an intrestng fight. but to say a no contest, is a little ridiclous. talk about hype, if he loses to Salido my goodness u guys are gonna look skilly.
