Quite surprising to hear about his defeat, but this is predictable. No boxing champion can hold title forever especially when he only fights once a year and has no target or ambition.

I think this is the end of his career.

While I'm not a fan of Gary fighting every year, year and a half, I don't think the L last night to Mark will put an X on his career. I think he will get the rematch and who knows, gets his shoulder 100 and let's see what happens. But his inactivity is a head scratcher

Horrible take by Gary. You lost period and you're an idiot who wasted your career by being an arrogant fool by thinking that you were better than you really were and you were doing us all a favor by fighting once a year. Retire now dumbass before you get embarrassed again narcissist.

Gary had it coming. That’s what happens when you hold the belt hostage and fight only once a year, it was bound to bite you in the ass.

Really sad to see a talent like Russell go to waste like that.

Magsayo didn't look overwhelming in that bout.
I think a healthy Russell could very well win a rematch.

However, he won two clear rounds last night and had two others that were close.

None of the scorecards should have been closer than 116 - 112.

117-111 or 118-110 were also reasonable.

Bad scorecards, but they get a pass because they got the right man winning.

Lynne Carter should be publicly horse-whipped !

No respect for this clown. He fights less than once a year and thinks he wins no matter what happens in the ring. He was obviously injured and should not have fought with one arm. I don’t hate GRJ like some people but he’s hard to like because he fights so infrequently and is a classless punk at times. Couldn’t even win with the POS PBC ****sucker judges. Time to think about hanging it up if he can’t get that shoulder fixed and finally start fighting more often. With two arms, I could see him winning a rematch. If he doesn’t plan to fight more often, I hope he quits for good.

Blame the WBC for protecting his inactivity as a champion now comes Gary blaming everybody dreaming about moving up to 135 I guest most boxing fans are happy he lost the fight.

I heard Russel and Beterbiev hang out in between fights. Anyway, I had Russel winning maybe 4 rounds. This fool talking about he won 10? C'mon. I find it very annoying that fighters these days just cannot admit they got beat. It was apparent that Russel was injured and he stuck it out. Just come out and say, Magsayo was he better man tonight and leave it at that. Don't even mention the injury.

This times 10 million. I admire the talent he once had and if he didn't have baby arms he could have just been so unstoppable. His inactivity is perhaps the biggest crime as his style of fighting relies a lot on youth and keeping his speed. He was spoon fed "TBA" almost his whole career and in the first real fight we saw him in he got absolutely man-handled. I had high hopes for this guy years ago but the more he opened his mouth, the more I wanted to see someone shut it.
He represents everything in boxing I hate. A wasted, inactive career where the fighter is the hyped guy that gets spoonfed garbage, he talks crap about all the top fighters but never fought any of them and is just disrespectful because he is so insecure he has this need to act like he is above and better than other fighters despite never fighting them, or in Gary's case...not fighting at all. Look how poorly this clown takes losses, that tells you all you need to know.

There is just no way he is going to be more active at this age. If an injury he says dates back to the olympics is bothering him, I think he is done. He has brittle hands as well. I know he has made a lot of money but he could have made so much more fighting in his prime. What a waste. I get if a fighter says some disrespectful stuff about an upcoming opponent or whatnot but this guy craps on everyone in an effort to pump himself up. Very unnecessary and no one believes it. He is literally only fooling himself.

His career is OVER boss. Fighting Russell was always a "high risk, low reward" type of fight but at least he had the belt. Now fighting Russell is a "high risk, no reward" fight and since (at age 33) he's not a cash cow or gate attraction, what name or rising star is going to want to fight him.

Russel can fight on but his fights will be of no relevance.

Yes! I had it 116-112 because as you say Magsayo wasn't all that. The draw card was a joke . Now the elephant in the room, why did Russell fight if he knew he was injured to the point he could lose? I suspect he needed the money after being inactive so long.
