I made a thread a while ago about Russell wanting the winner between Mares and Ponce. At the time his camp was sure Ponce would win and sent a contract to him. I'm only stating this cause Mares is making seem like he's just knowing getting the contract post Mares fight. That makes my boy Gary look like he's picking on left overs. I will admit he did send a contract over to lopez pre garcia fight and he kind of was washed up. Anyway if a Ponce fight leads to Mares then that's the fight he should take. They want Mares but GB doesn't think that he's ready!
So basically he sends contracts over to the underdog of an upcoming big fight, hoping that the underdog wins so that he'll have an easy shot at the title? Because no person in their right mind would honestly believe that Juanma was going to beat Garcia. If that isn't the case, then why wouldn't he have just sent a contract to Mares and Ponce plus Garcia and Juanma?
Noooooo. He sent a contract out to fight Lopez before he was dumb enough to even think about fighting Garcia not when the fight was being made! It would of been smarter to fight Russell !
Ohhhhhhh... Yeah, I agree. Lopez should have taken Russell as long as the money was somewhere close to the same. ****, he may have been able to get Russell to go to Puerto Rico...
Ponce is a huge step up for him, even after his recent loss. And its a big risk too because i highly doubt that Jr could beat him with one hand.
While both Mares and Ponce are both big steps up, Russell strikes me as a guy who's ready to explode with a major breakthrough once he's asked to rise to the occasion, ala Floyd vs Genaro Hernandez, Duran vs Buchanan, Ward vs Kessler, or most recently Mikey Garcia vs Salido.
