Dan Rafael is saying HBO is looking at possibly doing a tripleheader in April. Two of the matches they are working on are Russell-Gonzalez and Maidana-Keith Thurman. Andre Berto may also be on the card but no opponent was mentioned.

If these fights do come off than that is a very good card. I also notice HBO is doing a tripleheader in January and now talking about one in April. Maybe Showtime's current trend of quadrupleheaders is forcing HBO to up their game.

Russell vs. Gonzalez is a pleasant surprise. Maidana vs. Thurman is overdue.

This is a sweet card no matter who Berto faces.

Don't see Maidana ever taking that fight(except for a lot of $$). He will be destroyed.

Hard to figure who would be the headliner for that card.

Yep. This is the kind of creative matchmaking I've wanted from Ken Herschman. Won't cost HBO too much, either.

Does anyone know if Thurman moved up to 154 because he couldn't make 147 anymore, or was it because he couldn't find anyone who would fight him? I'm pretty sure the fight will take place at 147 but Thurman will still be way to big for Maidana to overcome

Gary Russell is managed by Haymon...so is Thurman and Berto. They all will be paid well.

Would love to see Berto in a rematch with Zaveck or against Randall Bailey or Kendall Holt. Would all be good action fights.

What makes you think Maidana will be destroyed? I like Thurman and think this is a good fight for him to properly gauge where he's at in his career, however I don't think he would just steamroll Marcos. Maidana has made some great improvements and will be the best fighter Thurman has ever faced. Plus, he has a great chin and can hit pretty hard himself.

Thurman was calling out welters after he KO'd Quintana. He wants to cut down there because of the glove size and more money.

He moved up to 152 because that is what Quintana demanded. His trainer said Thurman makes 147 easily(if he has to), and can even go lower(145, etc).
