Just my opinion as a fan of Thurman, and what I have seen from both.

Maidana's new "skills" against the highly unskilled whoever that was he last fought(don't remember the name), don't impress.

Solid card if this happens. Any news on possible venue?

He last fought Soto Karass. A solid journeyman/gatekeeper with plenty of tools in the drawer, but nothing elite.

Damn good fight as far as entertainment, but not a whole lot of skill on display.

Agree Maidana is too small for Thurman. I think Thurman and Angelo would benefit both fighters.

Two potentially great fights, although I suspect Thurman will just thrash Maidana. Maidana ain't no welterweight and I doubt he'll be able to handle Thurman's size. Hell, while Gonzalez is a great boxer, his chin is still pretty rotten and Russel might make short work of him as well. Nice steps up for both guys though.

I absolutely love these solid double headers between quality fighters who aren't quite big names. It always leads to stacked cards that are competitive.

Pretty much. And for all the 'new skills' that were on display, Maidana still got hit a hell of a lot by a guy who shouldn't give elite fighters any trouble.

Or to put it another way - it took Maidana two more rounds to get the job done than did Alfonso Gomez.

Maidana v Thurman is just wrong on so many levels.
