Give Russell another year, or so. I'll take Salido for now though. Although I don't think Russell's team would make that fight, just yet. Russell hasn't really faced anyone that could give him a good fight yet. So far, it's just been target practice for Russell.
Salido would get outboxed over the first half, but would make his presence known by applying continuous pressure and landing occasional right hands. The second half of the fight is where it would get interesting. I don't think Russell is good enough yet to do a truly comfortable 12 with Salido. Maybe in a year or so, but his back-foot boxing, defense, and durability are question marks as of now. Not to say he wouldn't win this fight though. He very well could, even with some trouble along the way like I would anticipate.
Too Early for Russell... Salido gave Robbert Gurrero a hard time.. yes I know I know he tested positive for roids after the fight but I don't see a boxer that dosen't yet have a proven chin against a warrior get a W against Salido.. Maybe in 2 more years I give Russell the nod.. but now.. No Sir..
Hard to pick at this point. Salido has great fundamentals, good timing, consistent pressure, and that chopping overhand right, so he'd be his toughest test without any doubt whatsoever. The one thing though that would trouble an aging Salido would be an elusive defense, and hands quick enough to land the better punches repeatedly (as we saw against Gamboa). Russel's defensive fundamentals seem there, but haven't been tested anywhere near the level they would be against Salido's offense. Great fight.
Russell comfortable decision, different levels ability wise, the only concern is him handling the 12 round distance
