"He(Dan Goosen) said he wanted the fight to happen in Oakland and I said I want the fight to take place in Michigan. He said 'let's flip a coin' and I said 'that won't happen, you better start thinking about Madison Square Garden.' And I was being serious,..I won't agree to Oakland." Good for Gary Shaw. It's one thing for Ward to have all his opening round bouts in The States, it's quite another for him to have all 3 fights in Oakland. Ward needs to travel just like everyone else. If Ward likes Oakland so much, there's an Oakland in Michigan; they can have the fight there. The fight should definately in Michigan, Madison Square Garden, or Atlantic City.
Its obvious that home advantage makes a big difference. I still can't believe that boxing fans are so oblivious to that fact. but you can tell that the people who are actually involved in the sport are very aware.
Ward-Kessler was in Oakland, Ward-Green is supposed to be in Oakland also. That's two fights for Ward in Oakland, so this fight should be in Michigan. That would even it out to two hometown fights for Dirrell. Ideally I wouldn't like any hometown fights, but I don't know if economic factors will really allow that.
you know, I bet you Ward vs Dirrel in Montreal with decent promotion and some local fighters on the undercard could sell 6-7 thousand tickets.
**** that, everyone but Ward in the tournament has fought or will fight outside of their hometown. Ward and Goosen should stop being a couple of little bitches and actually fight outside of their backyard...
I agree, this fight needs to be in nuetreal(never learned how to spell that word :yep) venue...... Ward and Dirrelll each have biased refs in their hometowns..... I want to see an even fight..... Its clear these are the 2 most talented fighters of the super 6 :good
Have it at MSG or Atlantic City. This fight should be at a nuetral site. It'll be so big it wont matter where its held.
As much as I'd like the fight to be in Oakland, since its only 20 minutes from my casa, I agree with the point of it being unfair for Ward to have all 3 fights at home. Having the crowd behind you is HUGE in any sporting event. It should be mandatory that each of the Super 6 have to travel at least once. Some of them are fighting every fight abroad
Hahah another one in Oakland! You must be kidding?! A side note... both shows in the states, Michigan and Oakland looked like they were from some villages deep in the states. Michigan was half empty.. the crap fights in Germany by Arena at the same night drew more people and were so much better produced. Tell you everything you need to know about boxing in the states.
Yes I know. Because Pacman and Clottey, both foreignors, with one completely unknown to the public didnt just get 50,000 at Dallas Stadium Certainly says alot about boxing in the states. :rofl
I never saw any justifiable reason for Ward to get home court everytime out. I heard some crap about him being afraid to fly . . . . . but . . . . . please . . . . miss me with the dumb ****!
