Boxing promoter and EliteXC President Gary Shaw talks about this weekend's eagerly anticipated mixed martial arts clash between Kimbo Slice and Tank Abbott as well upcoming boxing fights like Vazquez-Marquez III, Dawson-Johnson and Tarver-Woods. You don't want to miss what he had to say as he shares his thoughts Dana White, Brock Lesnar's recent loss to Frank Mir, Gina Carano, Roy Jones Jr. and much more. http://mma-core.com/handlers/NewsViewer.ashx?nid=1000292&tid=109
In other words Gary said "This sucks! I could have milked Brock for millions putting him up against cans in MMA before finally having to send him into a bigtime Mega Million Dollar MMA match, completely unprepared for that level of competition. Yes, I would have set his career back further as he wouldn't have got this learning experience early on and he would have had a lot of false ideas about his MMA ability, but I would have made a killing off of his name".
I agree with Gary Shaw. It was a bad matchup and has diluted the interest in a guy who could have been a huge star with better match making.
,,,im sure the next time brock fights.....people will watch..... a ...ko...would have ruined his career....... gettin caught in a submission..while ur beating the ****..out the dude... isnt gonna ruin his career...quite yet..unless it becomes a trend.....
Shaw is right. Brock was thrown to the wolves. He only had 1 fight, and was matched against a World class BJJ grappler, former UFC HW Champion. Mir is a poor striker, he has 3 loses (all of his loses) by early first round KO. But Lesnar isnt a striker anyway, with no experiance to take advantage of Mir's weakness. This fight was bound to go to the ground, where Mir is exceptional!
Yes but Mir was also coming off a career threatening injury and isnt the same physically prior to his injury. Its semantic really as a case can be made for either side. At the end of the day the UFC is the big leagues. If Brock wants to fight there he has to play according to Dana`s rules. So its quite immaterial as to what Shaw thinks. His nothing more than pimp.
Gary show is the scum of the earth and there as nothing better than watching his fat ass at ringside of the Calzaghe Lacy fight as the "star" he created crumbled in front of him. Gary Show doesnt want to legitimately create good fighters, he wants to create nobodys who sell tickets. He also wants to molest all his female fighters and should be shot. By "promoting him differently" what he would have done was fed him a bunch of bums and paid off bums incase even the bum was better, and then culiminated it with a gary show championship at a weightclass that doesnt exist. Its mma, nobody gets a free ride, you have to win to count, lets keep it that way.
Heaven forbid people should have to be world class to fight in the world class orgs for big money. The mother ****er got to walk to the ring second over one of the most important HW's in UFC history. If you want to get built slow, go earn it, don't insult the fans by having cupcake fights on a big time ppv.
On one hand, I agree with Shaw here. Brock should have been groomed for a year at least. Then they could have tried stiffer competition. In the long run, I do think this loss was best for Brock's development as a fighter. He can go back to the drawing board and work on the holes in his game. So, basically, I am contradicting myself, but what can I say? And, yeah it was a bit of a slap in the face to Mir by having him walk to the ring first. I thought the same thing that night.
