Nah cos I'm actually quite intrigued to see this fight, I really enjoy watching Broner do his thing and Sykes is a decent little fighter at Domestic level, I've seen both fight quite a few times I just think it's a bit weird matchmaking, doesn't mean I aren't quite looking forward to watching it. I couldn't give a **** about Cleverly and I'd never heard of Karpency (not to mention it was one of the worst fights I've ever seen)
They've said it's for the title now pal, interview with Sykes about it was on Ringside last night :bbb
I'm sceptical about this going ahead.Haven't watched Ringside yet but said in BN that it's to get British fans interested in Broner.:huh Do they think we'll all be impressed because Broner is feasting on a B-level domestic fighter just because he's from here? Did Sykes say it was definitely on? Haven't watched the Sky+ yet.
I heard he is fighting this Escobedo in August or September, why didn't make that fight on 19th of May, Sykes is not in Broner's league.
Sykes is a good fighter. He was sparked out by Gary Buckland but was caught cold in that fight. Prizefighter is a risky tournament for a reigning British champion to get involved in. Bad move that for him. He lost the rematch on points but Buckland is a tough lad and on a bit of a roll at the moment and Sykes put up a very decent fight that night. Broner is a big favourite in this fight but if Sykes can keep his composure and not let the occasion get the better of him then he could make a decent fight out of it.
**** meatsch Be interesting to see what the "SBA" crew, who accuse Ricky Burns of ducking Broner have to say about this one. Longest odds ever on vbookie?:think Doubt IB would touch this one.
See, this is the kind of fight I like. Most Americans won't have a clue who Gary Sykes is, but because he's British and not from Manchester, they'll assume he's a useless bum. What they don't realise is that he is actually one of the best pure boxers to come out of this country in decades. He may lack power but I've no doubts that Gary Sykes can completely outbox Broner and force him to do something he's never done before, fight on the front foot. After a few rounds of Sykes playing Mr Technical, Broner will be confused as **** and this is when frustration kicks in and Sykes continues to outbox him from long range. Broner will then have to get reckless and hunt down Sykes, something I really don't think he can do. If Carl Johanneson couldn't stop Sykes, then there's no way Broner will. However, I've also no doubts that the US judges will most likely shamefully rob Gary Sykes of the decision win just like they did with Abrill last week, Campillo before and Britain's own Amir Khan and Carl Froch last year.
I havent seen much of him, however surely he isn't the most deserving guy for a title shot. His last opponent Dean Mills 6-5-2, also been beat by Buckland twice.
Buckland knocked him out and Johanneson dropped him heavily and hurt him a few times, which doesn't bode well for the lad when Broner probably hits harder than them two combined :huh
