why all the hate for Ricky Burns hes done these isles proud flying the flag and beating decent fighters at both weights and technically he is a two weight world champion. Why mock someone who is going to provide us with some exciting fights in the future?

You call me thick yet you claim I wrote Sykes would beat Martinez or Katsidis?

    Show me.

I forgot that Nicky Cook was considered a worthy challenge, that epic must've really hurt Burns' ability not stay at SFW and face Broner!

Burns doesn't beat Broner & at least Sykes is looking at a chance of getting in there with him

I do know what I'm talking about though Billy, It's obvious to everyone that Ricky has never won a legitimate world title.

    :hi:

Correct me if i'm wrong but wasn't Martinez the no.1 or 2 Super Feathers at the time so I would say that is legit....
Although the defences were soft he wasn't a paper champ

Admittedly the duck of Broner was a shame

Lightweight has been pretty cushy of late due to good matchmaking but hopefully after Mitchell in the summer we can see a unification fight or someone in the top 10 (hopefully in the US) rather that giving Crolla, Rees and Murray shots when they haven't won at world level and simply would be getting the shot due to being British

Martinez beat Nicky Cook, who was Euro level, and made two horrible defenses against Viloria and Munguia, Martinez was the definition of a paper champion, and really is a very very average fighter. No way he was even a top 4 or 5 SFW. Just because he was ranked number 1 by the ring means absolutely **** all.

Then at lightweight gets handed the WBO belt, neither were legimate.

Yeah i take the point that Martinez wasn't the best, but remember it was Ricky's first fight at world level so no point throwing him in at the deep end

Katsidis made sense as it was an easy sell and a very winnable fight

and the whole point of interim titles was for the scenario of someone moving up or injuring etc so i have no problem whatsoever ofBurns being given the title

Moses again easy sell, one defeat and former world champ - would make no sense going after Vazquez or deMarco at this point - lets face it are Abril and Murray really that much better than Katsidis and Moses? Yet no-one is calling Rios a paper champ
