Ye, when Steve Bunce had Monte Barrett on his show the host ended the interview with 'It's going to be a Cr@cker'(this might have been in reference to Haye-Barret or Jones jnr-Calzaghe), and Barrett looked at him with a confused look on his face.
I am really looking forward to this fight. I am a big Carl Johannesson fan and been to see just about all his fights in recent times. I have seen just about every Sykes fight too so am expecting great things from this match up. Sykes has been chucked in deep on this one but I think he is ready for the step up and am excited by his class. The lad is one of our best prospects and this fight will prove it hopefully. I still got alot of time for Carl but think he career is just about over.
Carl is washed up but should still win this. All he needs to do is bloody move his head and he will be alright!
Nah Sykes is an impressive prospect with a fair bit of ability and style. Carl can still offer a good fight and will not make it easy but I would expect Sykes to come through with a pts win.
This thread is from a year ago but it was in BN today that these two will now fight for the English title on this card: http://boxrec.com/show_display.php?show_id=590664 Main event is said to be Ian Napa in a Brit title defence but it's not up on boxrec yet.
This fight could go either way... I think that Gary Sykes is a fantatic prospect on the way up with great boxing skills and speed. Carl Johannsen is not at his best but has immense power, that is always the last thing to go and if he tags Sykes he will go. It is clear that Sykes career is now at a crossroads and this is an opportunity to move up and move on... Hope down the line that Sykes can fight Mitchell...they were on track to meet in the ABA semis in 2003 and Sykes got a flu and could not make it... It will be a great contest...:bbb
