Ricky Burns is in line for a world title shot some time in 2013 but for me Gary Sykes has a better record and level of opponent...Hopefully Sykes will be fighting Burns conquerer Carl Johanesson soon too and maybe a rematch with Morris that would put him on another level to Burns. I am still not over sold on Sykes but a Burns fight would be great before he tries a move up to Euro level.
I think that Ricky Burns will beat Sykes in a couple of fights time...:yep The best thing that happened to Ricky Burns was getting beat by Carl Johannsen, he has showed tremendous character and spirit and I think is the most improved British fighter amongst our current crop...:deal
Just my opinion...:yep I think Ricky Burns will do well in the future...:yep I still think if Carl Johannsen trains right he will get back to the top of the domestic scene...I think if he fought Kevin Mitchell again with a solid camp he would beat him, he was only 50% against Mitchell that night...:yep
I would rate both of them on the same level tbh and I really can't see Ricky Burns' world level potential (sorry Billy), but Frank can get him a shot at a title so fair play, he should take it. I would love to be proven wrong about this. If Sykes v Johannsen can be made next that would be a great test for him, Carl still has enough to cause plenty of problems...and IF Burns loses he can fight the winner
listen everyones entitled to there opinon, but ricky burns would school gary imo he's at a diffrent level completly, even chris ashton was asking ricky to move up to light weight wonder why lol. i hope martinez wins early tonight and we get a date very soon.i promise all ESB regulars the better the opponent the better you will see of ricky. Well done to gary all the same he enjoyed his victory and that was good to see.
I have always had the best wishes for Ricky and give him the best of luck and do not grudge him his chance at a world title. I just wish he would have had a few harder fights to get him ready for the world class fighters he will be meeting and hopefully beating very soon. I have no doubt that if he had fought the guys Sykes had recently and then beaten Sykes, Carl Johaneson and maybe Leva and Nicky Cook he would have a genuine chance of world title glory...at the moment unfortunetly I am scared that he will be going to fight Martinez on the back of beating (and looking decent...not great) a few afro bums, eurobums and faded ok fighters. For me Sykes vs Burms makes more sense than Burns vs Martinez.
i can see your point,i'd like to see gary in with the african that burns beat in his 1st defence in glasgow he could punch and ricky broke him down and stopped him in good fashion imo.ricky given the chance would fight any of the above named guys and beat them maybe one of them will get a chance in a first defence.martinez won in the 4th round no suprise there then fighting a guy with a 17-6 record for a world title:huh hopefully get a date soon for the fight with burns in glasgow.
well billy i agree with you on this one, burns is to seasoned and a bit to solid for sykes at this time, in fact johanson is a much tougher customer for both of em, burns would win a hard fight on points, but sykes would be beatup in 8 rounds, sykes needs 2 yrs before he messes with them, hell be a bit better and they will be 2or 3 hard fights worse of by then.
I'm not sure if Burns is world level but he's currently the UK's No1 imo and beats Sykes comfortably imo
Burns can operate at World Level, it will be the path that is chosen on route to World Level that is the most important...:yep Lessons learnt from fights, the right rest between contests and clear and focused training camps...:yep They all show the cracks in the plaster if they ain't done 100%...:yep
I just do not to see another Brit fighter get his world title crack and get dumped out quick because he was not brought along correctly at the right time. I would certainly have prefered Burns to have fought a couple more of the top British contenders and definetly Leva before maybe fighting Cook or someone else of that level before a world title fight. I am sure if he had come through as a winner in those fights he would be better suited to beating Martinez.
:good You should have to prove that you are good enough (or have the potential to be good enough) before getting a shot. There are several more proven names than Burns within the WBO top 10, it's as simple as that.
