Zero head movement. No jab. Not a single feint. Walked in a straight line, but brought zero pressure and workrate. Never once tried to counter Usyk's jab. Wow!!!
That is what happens when you fall in love with your power and Abel Sanchez keeps repeating it in your ear that no one can take your power.
That was so blatant to me: what was Sanchez thinking by training Gassiev to throw single shots? When you have slow feet and face an extremely fast mover like Usyk, you either train to punch with the guy, or to stay on the outside and then jump in to ambush. Gassiev did neither: he covered up without counters when Usyk was teeing off on him in the pocket, and stayed in range to absorb Usyk's shots with minimal/non-existant head movement, blocking when possible. He just treats boxing as an athletic contest: touching of the gloves, respect, etc. No genuine killer instinct. Against Lebedev i thought he was taking it easy on his old compatriot, but it appears he simply doesn't want to hurt people too bad.
Yep. Powers a double edged sword. You start to rely on it and when someone comes up who can take or negate your power your all out of options. Usyk was always going to win im suprised it wasnt a little bit more competitive.. also the betting odds were ever so slightly in favor of usyk which i felt was wrong
I think Usyk just made him ineffective. There are things are you want to do, but can't do. You can't throw combinations if you're not in position. I think Gassiev tried, but Usyk was always out of range for more than 1 shot. He was constantly moving and rarely allowed Gassiev to get in position for his patented left hook to the head and body. Gassiev being trained by Sanchez doesn't make him GGG. Gassiev is a good fighter with good technique, but he doesn't know how to cut off the ring like GGG, a skill essential to fighting movers. He can beat movers of lesser skill, but he will always have trouble with Usyk.
