That sucks. I would have really liked to see him in there with Briedis. They would have probably met in the finals. As such, it's disappointing to not see him in there right now. Gassiev is a good fighter. Maybe a tad bit too raw and unpolished at the moment, but it's highly unlikely any version of Gassiev could have beaten Usyk anyways. I hope the Usyk schooling doesn't destroy his confidence. He should have a long career ahead of him. On the bright side though by perhaps not entering the tournament he can move up to HW after his shoulder recovers. And then try and secure mandatory status at HW. Gassiev would be a great addition to HW. My biggest worry is Abel Sanchez seems to be a fickle guy. I hope he doesn't abandon and give up on the guy because he just couldn't touch Usyk.
That sucks i like gassiev and think he will learn from his loss to usyk and get better hes still young. It was his tournament to win no doubt.
Gassiev is young, he has a lot of time to improve. Usyk dismantled the man but hes Usyk. Let him rest and recover and see how he goes as the years go on. I don’t think I’d ever write a young fighter off based on a loss.
I forgot that Gassiev is only 24 He looks 15 years older to be honest The man still has time to create a legendary resume.
This was being reported back about 3 weeks after the Uysk fight. Turns out in all likelihood Uysk only beat an injured man last time out. Something people want to discredit his next opponent for
