Surely the fighters can't just cherry pick where they fight. If Usyk refused to fight because of location I hope they sue him for all he's worth.
If we don't get the Usyk vs Gassiev final, the tournament would be a failure. They can't change the rules while the tourney is already on its way, and just disregard what the fighters agreed to beforehand, certainly not if it's in such a rigorous way.
Groves - Smith Usyk - Gassiev Or just forget the whole thing and cancel these future planned tournaments.
I don't have a problem with alternates filling in for the first or second rounds, but the men that made the finals should be locked. Winning this tournament is suppose to be a huge payday, not to mention recognized as the best in the division. The men in the finals earned the shot at being the best and getting paid handsomely, you can't bring someone in who hasn't participated at all and give them a chance to win the whole thing. Injuries happen, they should have realized this when they setup the tournaments to be concluded inside a year. You have to give the finalists the time they need to recover and fight in their rightful place if you want to maintain credibility, and give the tournaments for next year the chance to be successful. What I mean by that is I believe many of the fans they have made of the WBSS will turn on them if there is no guarantee we get to see the fighters we have followed to the finals actually fight each other. Usyk vs Gassiev is a hardcore fans dream, you can't dangle that final in front of the fanbase and then threaten to take it away with a much much lesser final.
From the very beginning the locations of both finals were revealed. They want to now change that, which unless agreed to by Usyk, would lead to the WBSS being in breach of contract..... Meaning Usyk would actually be the claimant. Asking Usyk to fight in Russia is not only a breach of contract, but highly illogical.
The locations of the finals weren't revealed until either half way through the 1st round or after the 1st round if I am not mistaken. I am pretty sure the contracts were written as such that the fighters had no control over locations and that maximising the revenue would have been taken in to account
A fighter wouldn't be foolish enough to allow themselves to have no control over the location. Plus, if Usyk can prove he is fit and that the rumours about the WBSS struggling to fund the prize money, he can sue regarding the lies about him being injured.
I think we all know **** happens and dreams rarely come true. WBSS has done the best they can do, I think they can be proud of themselves and the fans should respect what they have done. Ffs we have had some epic scraps regardless of what happens in the final. It actually annoys me that the fans will accuse it of being a failure just because of the final doesn't work out as planned. Ffs it has still been pretty epic IMO
A venue in Germany is the best place for it , or else either guy will have to man up and fight on the others home turf.
