I think it has more to do with the fact that Gatti just isn't ratings.

The news is about ratings ultimately...and people are still performing verbal necrophilia with Michael Jackson because it'll ultimately bring in the ratings.

I mean elitist by boxing fans continually trying to chase down MMA because it's insecure about boxing's status in the world.

If we stopped chasing off "that fake fighting stuff" or "those two steroid guys rolling around" and focused on fixing our own little pile of WTF we call boxing, maybe they wouldn't be consistently kicking our asses in buyrates and ratings and all that ****.

I was supposed to go but my ride petered out.

Ultimately boxing DOES need those fans...and just to bring this bad boy full circle, Arturo Gatti packed the Boardwalk with thousands of those sort of fans and made a career out of it.

See? There we go we've officially gone back to square one on the matter

Personally I dont think its because its because of the HW division I think ita because its not as mainstream as it was. Just about every good fight is on PPV, we need more top fights on ABC, CBS and all those channels.

Which is ultimately the double edged sword. In order to get on TV, You have to prove there's a market for it. In order to prove a market for it, you have to get high ratings on HBO and Showtime and order PPVs. In order to accomplish that, the honchos who run boxing have to BUILD stars and put on GOOD PPVs.

That's why we'll never be on those channels again.

I can respect that, V Klitschko/J.C. Gomez was on ESPN classic and ESPN 2 I said that was a good start. But my hope is to get a Pacquiao/Mayweather type match on there but it will never happen...

Gatti got a write up on national newspapers in the UK as well coverage on BBC and Skysports and the like...

If anybody expected a michael jackson style drama then they were always gona be dissapointed.

To be fair, I don't think the boxers are to blame. Ultimately they're fighting pawns...the guys we really need to turn and look at are the GBP's, Top Rank's and Goosen's of the world who have profit in front of progress. Obviously PPV has its advantages and disadvantages...but boxing needs them to work for the fans and the fighters ultimately.

    Pretty typical Philly reaction, honestly.

Most of us are just trying to put the man's life and career into any semblance of perspective after a particularly gruesome death, and this guy is spouting off about the sports' "relevance". Neither the time nor the place. Why does Gatti have to "save boxing" with his death for Christ's sake? I'd say he did plenty during his life. Let the man rest.

If Boxing is going to sit with a thumb up it's ass and wait for another Tyson to spring up on them, they're ****ed.

And while the sport is thriving internationally, the best fighters in the world (a vast vast majority of them) have to come here for the biggest pay days against the toughest opposition. The problem is soon they'll be no money for them here and they'll be robbed of all the advantages that fighting in America can bring to the table.
