ESPN just re-aired this fight, and I haven't seen it since fight night. I remember Gatti getting beat down, but I truly forgot how much of a virtuoso performance this was. Mayweather called Gatti out as a C level fighter who would get destroyed. I remember other fight fans saying how much of a mistake that was, but Mayweather dismantelled and destroyed him from round 1. This fight reminds me how undersized Mayweather is at 147 and 154. His skill allows him to win at those weights, but if he had stayed at 140 and managed to get a chance to consolidate the division, he could have moved to 147 and 154 and truly been labeled as an all time great on the level of Robinson and Leonard.
I just rewatched it, too. Holy mother of God...that hand speed is brilliant. He can land three left hooks before you have time to blink.
Floyd's hand speed is very good, but I've always been more impressed with the speed of his body when he slips shots, his reflexes, the speed of how he reacts to openings, than his actual hand speed.
i just watched it also and man what a murder he ripped gatti since round one and yes his hands are impressive but the way he jumps back when gatti throws a punch is amazing the guys got the skill no doubt about it
Funnily enough I rewatched his fight Vs the tricky southpaw DeMarcus Corley yesterday. His footspeed is absolutely incredible - He's inside landing a combination and back out of range before you can blink. Lets face it, the guy is just fast. But yeh it made me realise how slow, and heavy-footed he is in comparison at the higher-weights - He's still fairly quick and agile compared to his opponents, but but not compared to his prime weights of 130lbs-140lbs. I wouldn't have blamed him if he stayed at 140lbs, but I think he had to move up because "the man" at this weight, Hatton, was too scared to fight him. And still is incidentally. I wonder if entering his thirties now he'd still be this good at 140lbs though?
I know people always say he pot shots this and that..but he is just in and out..he jumps back in just as fast as he jumps. He is quick as anybody I have ever seen. Its like he is in the matrix against a regular guy..lol....The late great chico called him greased lightning. If that aint true. And Yes I am more impressed by Floyds defense and reflexes and his BALANCE...I mean that **** is damned near perfect.:scaredas:
YES WE HAVE!!!! THESE GUYS ARE THE SAME ONES WHO SAW FLOYD FIGHT FOR THE FIRST TIME.....AGAINST DLH...CRYING ABOUT THIS POT SHOT ****...SO MANY "VICIOUS BOXERS" ON THIS SITE ITS UNBELIEVABLE...AND THEN WHEN THEY WATCH THE PAST THEY ARE ON HIS NUTZ...LAME INTERNET GANGSTERS
there is no haters because your stating the facts about his skills that cant be disputed...so they rather dispute if he could beat past ATG's so they can say he doesnt compare, they rather say he ducks fighters who have done nothing but hit hard so they should be able to KO floyd. Bottomline is everyone on this Forum know what Floyd can do and know he is very close to being a ATG with just maybe 3 fights he should do....until he does thats their ammo...all the other shyt is petty the same guys who knock PBF for fighting no one are the same people who ride Margo, Hatton, and Cotto's nuts and they dont have near a good a resume....go figure.
Mayweather is already an ATG. He could obviosly win more big fights and climb higher, but he's already there.
i dont think floyds handspeed is that exceptional. his accuracy is up there with the best tho. and even in combos. most fighters manage to land one out of 3, he can land a good few.
DIDNT LAND BOMBS??? yea he did..he tore gatti appart....he didnt ko him cuz he said he wanted to humiliate gatti in front of his fans in atlantic city...he just put a beating on him by landing the shots he did TO THE HATERS THAT SAY FLOYD DOESNT STAND TOE TO TOE--UR RIGHT HE DOESNT...AT 147 AND 154 UNLESS UR SHARMBA MITCHELL....BUT WHEN HE FOUGHT AT 130 TO 140 LBS HE WAS A HUGE BOXER-PUNCHER AND HED STAND TOE TO TOE WHEN HE WANTED TO
