After having a little trouble early on, Corrales would tear Gatti up. His shots were so much shorter and traveled less distance. Gatti might have some success boxing and moving, which troubled Corrales. But as soon as Corrales lands a good shot and stuns Gatti, Gatti goes to war. While this gives Gatti a chance at stopping the less than granite chinned Corrales, it also gives Corrales lots of openings. Gatti liked to wing those wide left hooks, while Corrales threw such short shots that would likely reach the target first. That would be the main difference.
Corrales by KO Corrales on the inside was brilliant. Always in punching posistion and can drop you with short shots. Gatti would be made to order for him. Would be a war for as long as it lasted.
I know what you mean, but Gatti, to a certain extent, could take some of the punishment Corrales would put forward. However, that would be a bad thing. Arturo would never have given up, no matter what, & I'm in no doubt that the referee or Gatti's corner would have had to rescue him! Wow, guys, what amazing warriors these two were! Amazing when you think about it....
Corrales is just a couples of levels above Gatti technically, better defensive, shorter punches, more disciplined and a more natural fighter with huge power to boot. This could have happened if Gatti didn't lose to Manfredy, who'm ofcourse Corrales did this to [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONA1xyETMHk[/ame]
Corrales was a pretty big puncher. We saw Gatti go down from light hitting guys because when he got engaged he planted his feet and started throwing and his defense went out the window. I think Corrales being a very good infighter would find the mark pretty quickly and put him out. I loved Gatti, he was a warrior, and he really could box a little when he tried, but against a fighter who would engage him as quickly as Corrales would have, it would have turned into a brawl quickly.
That was prime chico.... Honestly dont think there are many that would of beat him there!! And he had a VERY good jab which was fast..... Chico is was my hero.... Arturo doesnt really stand a chance unfortunately.... he might make it interesting though for a while!
I pick Gatti. I think big punchers were Corrales weakness. Gatti was a warrior and so was Chico, but I think down the stretch in the later rounds Gatti's chin was better.
It wouldnt get to the later rounds. Gatti would gone within 6. Arturo Gatti is simply one of the most overrated fighters of all time. EVERYTIME he fought an elite fighter he got his ass whupped. And no, Mickey Ward isnt an elite figher. Corrales would punch inbetween Gatti's wide ass punches with his shorter, straighter, devestating shots, and Gatti would eventually get brutally stopped. Corrales was an excellent offensive techncian. He had great accuarcy, great punch selection, devestaing power in BOTH hands, and was one of the best short range punchers probably since Arguello. And that all doesnt bode very well for a guy as hittable as Gatti.
Chico would probably be hurt and dropped, maybe more then once, but he was tough enough to endure what Gatti brings, IMO, Corrales weakness is not big punchers as much as it is speed with power, he gets hit with punches he doesnt see coming and he gets dropped by them, and almost every time, will get back up. That being the case, i really dont see Gatti hitting corrales with much that he doesnt see coming, so yes, Gatti will probably shake Corrales up here and there, but over the long haul, with Corrales ripping Gatti up and down, getting to him first with short, fast, compact combos inside on Gatti (Gatti can not compete on the inside against Corrales for this reason, Corrales's punches will be quicker, shorter, sharper, while Gatti will be throwing too wide, imo) I see Gatti battered, bruised, and busted by the 8th, and finished off around the 10th. It would be a potentially great fight, but Gatti is simply outclassed here.
