Gatti was exciting, fan friendly and had lots of heart but his skills at the top level were severely lacking. He lost to Ward, got schooled and stopped by Manfredy, lost twice to Robinson and his fights with De La Hoya and Mayweather are as one sided title fights as you'll ever see. Corrales on the other hand has World class pedigree in KOing Juuko, blowing away Manfredy (who, as mentioned, easily beat Gatti), beating Casamayor and stopping Castillo and Freitas. Sure Corrales had his flaws but he was a few levels above Gatti and Gatti is not the man expose them.
:good people seem to forget that gatti was a warrior, and popular because he took part in the type of fights everyone likes to see. he wasn't popular because he was a top class boxer
Yup. Looking at common opponents and the match-up of styles, I don't see how anyone would have Gatti the favourite. Corrales was clearly a class above Gatti. Chico was a high class operator at 130-135, and made mincemeat of the Manfredy-level fighters that Gatti had life and death wars with. He only lost to Mayweather at 130, and split bouts with Casa and Castillo at 135. Unlike Gatti, he has a good HOF claim based on resume alone. Gatti on the other hand has losses to Manfredy, Ward and Ivan Robinson, and was on the brink of losing to Wilson Rodriguez and a faded Gabe Ruelas.
Castillo is one of the hardest hitting lower weight fighters you wil find, as is chico. and they are both better fighters than gatti
You are a class A ****. Corrales had quicker hands than Gatti, and was FAR more accurate, and compact with his combinations.
