Jesus Christ. Just when I thought I was out..... you pull me back in. Seriously, what planet are you from, shommel?
Klompton is a son of a *****, sometimes. Let me rephrase that. Klompton is actually a son of a *****. Well, then he'd by a flyweight! :yikes
ok if chocolate was so good that he or srr were compared to each other ,if they were the same weight class who would win the kid or the great srr?
S, The Cuban Bon Bon, might have been "flashier" than the bigger Ray Robinson, but Sugar Ray was a stronger and deadlier puncher than Chocolate. That is the sole difference...By what I have heard from "oldtimers" ,and from tons of reading, only Benny Leonard, could match Ray Robinson in all-around ability. They both could do it ALL...
Eh...Chocolate dropped a couple of decisions to fighters he really had no right losing to, and his chin could be dented (if you could find it). Combined with the fact that Gatti could crack like a mofo, this makes it an interesting match if it's held at 130lbs. Chances are Chocolate cruises to either a decision and secures a stoppage in the later rounds. But Gatti's gonna try to force the issue the entire way and his punch and often under-used skill-set means he's gonna be hanging in there and trying like hell for as long as that fight lasts.
Chocolate only started losing to those kind of people and getting KOed when coke and partying got to him. At his best he is in a much much different class to a Gatti. See, what Mayweather did to him? Chocolate was better.
Robinson had two rolemodels when coming up. Joe Louis and Kid Chocolate. That´s the kind of class Chocolate is. You can´t shrink or grow fighters without them stopping beeing who they were.
Oh, Chocolate would be a prohibitive favorite going into the fight, and deservedly so. I'd pick him to win, too. Just saying that if he goes into party mode before the fight, and doesn't take Gatti seriously as a fighter he's putting himself at risk of getting dropped against a fighter who wasn't quite as **** as people on Classic seem to think.
Chocolate was outpointed by guys who relentlessly grappled and mauled him on the inside, ie: Berg, LaBarba, Battalino (all of whom are HOFers incidentally), but he was very effective against guys who fought at mid- or long-range. Even in his loss to Canzoneri up at 135, he still fought very well (and personally, I thought he won the fight). He also showed a pretty good chin at his peak, before Canzoneri ruined it in their rematch. Gatti would be like a slower, less talented, less polished, and probably even less hard hitting version of Al Singer - plus he was notoriously prone to cuts and swelling. Chocolate should be too quick and sharp a puncher for Gatti and take this by mid or late round stoppage.
The thing that is overlooked by Gatti FANatics is that the men who beat chocolate (when choc was "off" incedently) would have also kicked the living **** out of gatti. Yeah, gatti had heart and in this day and age that's admirable but back then that was the rule not the exception.
Chocolate seemed to completely fall apart after the second Canzoneri loss, I guess for the same reasons as many other Cuban fighters have. One thing going for Gatti in this match-up is that he was the far bigger guy, one of the biggest 130 lbers ever. He had problems with the smaller Manfredy and Patterson regardless. You also have to take into account the way he was completely embarrassed by Mayweather who had striking similarities with Kid Chocolate.
