To each their own. But I value heart and effort as much as skill. I said in the video Rigo is my favorite fighter.
Gatti-Ward 1 was a great fight. Neither of them were great fighters but still good enough to be top 10 contenders at 140 at the time, or at least by The Ring. I thought Robinson-Gatti 1 was just as great, although it doesn't get mentioned as much. While no rounds in that were as great as round 9 of Gatti-Ward 1, the action was actually more consistent throughout the 10 rounds. How did you guys score those fights? I had Gatti-Ward even at 94-94 and I think I also scored Robinson-Gatti a draw. Corrales-Castiilo 1 is #1 for me this century, and actually my top fight ever. It was both a violent war with great shifts in momentum and also a clinic on in-fighting from both fighters. My #2 fight this century would probably be Barrera-Morales 1.
lol i was kidding. i didnt play the video since ive seen the fights too many times, are you commentating?
I am, with an eye for technique as opposed to the usual color commentary. Don't get me wrong I try to tell the story of the fight and I'll admit I get lost in the awesomeness of it at times. It'd be impossible not to with this one. But it's less watching a fight with professionals commenting, more a super knowledgable friend. A sort of reaction video to boxing by a person who is trained and analytical.
Now that I think about it, Toney vs Jirov might be my number 1 pick. I watch it like once a month and was in 2001. It was the first video I did for the channel. For most of the same reasons you listed. Toney just has that x factor for me as my favorite fighter.
Glad to hear and I hope you like it. Fight actually starts at 3:55 if you don't feel like listening to me yammer about backstory.
Ive always felt this series was extremely overrated. Outside of selected rounds here and there Gatti easily outboxed Ward. The level of skill on display was pretty weak as well. This isnt anywhere near some of the great series fought by all time greats.
