The first bout was an ATG, but what about the other two. I think that the thrid one had a bit more action(back and foward) than the second one.

    Anyone care to differ....

2nd fight Gatti dominated. 3rd fight was great though. If you think about it, the 2nd fight in most trilogies are often the most underwhelming. Ali vs Frazier. Morales vs Barrera.

The second fight was amazing for the reason that Micky survived it after getting sent to the canvas by the kind of punch most fighters ccant recover from. His equilibrium was off for the rest of the fight be he was never out of the fight despite losing most rounds. The Third fight was better than the second but couldnt compare to the first. I think Ward-Augustus and Gatti-Robinson were better fights than Ward-Gatti 2&3 though.

if you watch them one after the other the second one seems a bit poorer just because the first one was amazing. Still a good fight though. I enjoyed all three although 1 is far better then the others

Yes the trilogy is overrated. The first fight was amazing but the second fight was a one sided decent action fight and the third was a lil closer and was better then the second fight but no where close to the 1st. The trilogy gets overrated because of the first fight. IMO Morales vs Barrera and Vazquez vs Marquez are def better trilogy and thats just this decade. There are more that I would rate higher then Gatti vs Ward.

And the 3rd fight wasnt even the best fight of 2003 Toney vs Jirov should've been given that award but because of the first fight everyone got all crazy over the third fight.

    Ridiculous thread

The first and third fights were SENSATIONAL, second fight was good.
To call something as special as this trilogy as ovverated is an insult to boxing and Arturo Gatti RIP

I also felt the Gatti/Ward trilogy struggled to live up its hype. Great fights, but not among the best I've ever seen.

Look, you're starting this thread as if you just read a bunch of thread's calling this the greatest trilogy ever or something.

I think I can speak for most when I say, the Gatti/Ward trilogy wasn't the most skilled trilogy ever, but it was one of the best in terms, of pure will, heart, and toughness that was so insipiring, alot of us could care less they don't have the boxing ability of a Floyd Mayweather.

In terms of humble super human heart and will being on display, this is one of the greatest trilogies of all time to me imo.

Gatti's fights with Ivan Robinson and Wilson Rodriguez and Micky Ward's fights with Antonio Diaz,Shea Neary and Emanuel Augustus >>>>>> the last two fights of that trilogy.

It has nothing to do with skill. The reason it's overrated is because the likes of HBO have spent the last six or seven years telling anyone who would listen that this trilogy featured three of the greatest fights in boxing history. In truth, the first fight was the only one that was great. The other two fights - the rematch especially - were largely one-sided in Gatti's favour.

There's a reason why nobody regards Gonzalez-Carbajal as a great trilogy.
