I know some people will heavily disagree with this, and that's fine. But I've always found this trilogy to be heavily overrated. People talk of it as one of the greatest trilogies of all time.

But for me only the 1st fight stood out which was a great fight, the 2nd fight was heavily one sided. And the 3rd fight for me was just ok.

I think there have been far better trilogies Barrera/Morales, Bowe/Holyfield, Ali/Fraizer, Patterson vs Johansson, Zale vs Graziano, Vasquez vs Marquez not counting their 4th fight.

And then you have underrated ones like Banke/Zaragoza, Andries/Harding. Which were alot better for me aswell.

Nah its the greatest for me. The three above were more popular just because they much more important.

I mean the first fight was special I agree, but the other fights ? Not so much. The 2nd fight was one sided, and the 3rd fight was just ok for me. But that's just my opinion I know it will be an unpopular one.

You could say the same fot the ones you mentioned above. Ingo vs Floyd trilogy was very short. Holyfield should have lost the second fight against Bowe as well.

That's true but fights like Marquez vs Vasquez, Banke vs Zaragoza, Harding vs Andries. Were alot better for me and don't get nearly as much attention.

I've always thought alot of the hype for Gatti vs Ward trilogy, comes from their 1st fight which was amazing don't get me wrong. But their other fights were not memorable for me personally.

Marquez vs Vasquez would be the unanimous pick for the greatest trilogy if that fourth fight never happened.

It's been awhile since I've seen them but I remember really enjoying the Shoji Oguma vs Chan Hee Park trilogy.

Man Oguma is so underrated. Top 25 flyweight of all time I don't care what anyone else says.

I think fight two might be my favourite fight ever.

It was a fantastic trilogy. I never saw it back in the day but went back and watched most of it after the HBO documentary came out around 2010 or something. The fights themselves were great though the second one not as exciting. The only downside of those meetings was that they weren’t between fighters of great historical importance but so what ? Great fights are made with chemistry and not names. The question I’ve always had is, would that trilogy had been as famous if not for the untimely and dramatic death of Arturo Gattti ?

Yes they are. Those fights ruined their careers.

For me its not really the historical importance, i just think the fights outside of the 1st meeting. Were very one sided in favour of Gatti, i mean in the 2nd and 3rd meeting Ward won about 4 rounds out of the 20 combined rounds.

When Gatti started to box he pretty dominated Ward in both fights, the only drama in the 3rd fight was that Gatti broke his hand. So he was basically fighting with one hand but still beat Ward handily, outside of a flash knockdown in the 6th round.

People may argue that Patterson vs Johnasson, had some one sided fights aswell which is true. But the satisfying conclusion with the brutal knockouts made up for that for me, who doesn't like seeing a good knockout ?
