Gatti/Ward is the most overrated trilogy of all time.

I think the entire Gatti vs Ward trilogy is extremely overrated. One decent fight, two pretty average affairs.

Here's the entire trilogy in a nutshell:

Fight one was decent, but nothing to brag home about. It was boring for about 70% of the fight. It only started to heat up from about the 7th round on. Fight two was alright, a complete schooling by a guy with subpar skills, and fight three was average as well and rather one-sided.

Fights with non-stop action are ok if you like that kind of style, but not all out brawls with no regards for defense and ignoring of technical skills. It's a complete slap in the face to the "sweet science".

All in all, I found Gatti-Ward the trilogy pretty underwhelming considering the hype that surrounds the fight. It's a total slap in the face to other great trilogies such as Ali/Frazier and Leonard/Duran. Real fights with real skilled fighters.

Thats overrated as well ... two guys without knockout power,
they can punch themselves to 'almost' death, but death ain't coming.

That was a great trilogy. Every fight was excellent. As a matter of fact, I think they got better each subsequent fight. The Gatti/Ward trilogy is a bit overrated. The first fight was a classic. It had everything most fight fans would want. The second two fights were just ok.

I don't think it was over rated.....it doesn't compare to the likes of Vasquez/Marquez or Ali/Frazier. But the fights were very exciting and brutal. At least the 1st and 3rd were. There was a great back and forth battle with incredible drama. The skills were there but very limited b/c Gatti and Ward were just trading going toe to toe.

I don't think anyone thinks it was the best trilogy but it was one of the most exciting. I don't think it was a slap in the face of the sweet science...it just had a great story behind it and two "under dogs" in the sport were able to get a pretty good payday off one anther. Italian vs Irish....US vs Canada....two warriors with a lot of heart and will and desire to win....I think it helped the sport.

Gatti - Ward 1 was insane and beside Morales - Barrera 1 it was the best fight of the last ten years.

The Gatti - Ward trilogy was great but
it should be behind the Vasquez - Marquez and the Barrera - Morales trilogy

    Over rated compared to what?
No one says it's the greatest trilogy ever, they just saw it was a great trilogy, a throw back to the old school.

I dont think anybody ever claimed it was the best trilogy based on skill. It was great because of the bravery of both men involved.

    Depends what you like.

Gatti-Ward tri overrated?maybe it is but then you mention the Duran-Leonard trilogy as an example of a great trilogy ,did you even watched the Duran-Leonard fights or are you just talking out of your ass?

The first fight was great, the second is average at best and the third one is just a joke of a fight between two old man,far from being a great trilogy.

I don't think it was all that cracking either.

The first fight was decent but the other two were distinctly average.... it's way behind Barrera/Morales & Vazquez/Marquez.

The trilogy was extremely fun for those that appreciate that style of boxing, all three were fun but Vasquez/Marquez beats them easily in terms of entertainment for me at least, same for Barrera/Morales because these are all A class fighters putting on entertaining shows when you know they CAN box and play safe whenever they want.

Gatti-Ward I was phenomenal. The second and third weren't anywhere near as good thus, as a trilogy, its not going to be mentioned along with Barrera-Morales, Rafa-Izzy and Ali-Frazier.

I do find it strange the thread-starter held up Leonard-Duran as a great trilogy though. How does one great fight make a great trilogy?
