Overall, Gatti and Ward probably put on the better fights, if you're just talking straight up minus skill level. Both of the first fights of the trilogies are two of my all-time (everybody else's too, I would assume) favorite bouts. Round 5 of MAB/Morales and Round 9 of Gatti/Ward, well, really no need to type anything else. The second fights of each trilogy were a disappointment, while the third installement of each, I thought was better than the second but not as good as the first. I personally would call it even.
Everything about Barrera-Morales was better. Also, I could watch their trilogy over and over without getting bored while Gatti-Ward gets boring after a few times because like people already said, they fought like club fighters. But Gatti-Ward was still an amazing fight to watch, I don't mean to disrespect them. Their fights just can't be compared to the unbelievable Barrera-Morales trilogy.
Barrera/Morales were better fighters, more action packed and was hate filled. The real debate in a few years will be Barrera/Morales against Vasquez/Marquez
Barrera-Morales 1 was better than both Vasquez-Marquez matches, but I can't wait until their third one. I think it will be very special and a rare case where the third match is the best. I'm hoping they start off more tactical for the first half of the fight and it ends with them brawling and Marquez crawling off the canvas, then knocking out Vasquez in the late rounds. Aaaahhhh.. I can't wait!
While I'd concede that MAB-Morales 1 tops Vasquez-Marquez 1 and 2, I'd say the sequel to MAB-Morales is below both Vasquez-Marquez fights. MAB-Morales 1 Vasquez-Marquez 2 MAB-Morales 3 Vasquez-Marquez 1 MAB-Morales 2 I expect Vasquez-Marquez 3 to be a tremendous end to not just the trilogy...but to the careers of both fighters as well. I don't think either one will be the same after this.
barrera-morales. gatti-ward is overrated. i get a kick out of people saying gatti-ward 1 (which is an extremely good fight) is the best fight ever. i don't think it would make my all-time top 40 list.
