Thats kinda b.s., there was a lot of controversy because Gatti had dropped down in weight to Gamache, then outweighed Gamache by about 20 pounds on fight night, so i wouldnt use that as an arguement for his power. hes a 6 tops.

He definitely hurt people with single power punches ... it saved his ass on numerous occassions. That left hook was his money punch.

7.5 out of 10. Definitely had some power, and as expected, it faded as he progressed up in weight divisions.

In fairness, I don't care how hard you hit, you ain't gonna hurt Baldo so that wasn't a good indication of Gatti's power at 147. He barely landed on Mayweather as well. Other guys he fought he still put some hurt on.

I never said that this fight should be used to support an argument for how good his power was. I've heard about the weight disparity many times, and I've also heard that Gatti was somehow allowed to weigh in a couple pounds over what the agreed upon limit was. I'm just saying that the KO was ****ing brutal.

I might be in the minority here, but I'd say that his power was a solid 8 out of 10. The guy was knocked down and busted up in so many of his fights. But he had the heart to stay in there without folding, and his power was what ultimately bailed him out a few times.

I apologize if i misunderstood. It was brutal, it ended Gamaches career!

Just as a side note: this isn't mentioned too often because the fight ended up being a massacre. But early in round 1 against De La Hoya, Gatti landed this huge left hook. Watching it at the time, I was like, "Oh, ****. That was a sweet shot." But DLH has such a good chin that he took it without being wobbled, and knocked Gatti down moments later.

If Tyson/Foreman/Naz/Hearns are examples of 10/10 1 punch KO power hitters.

Then Gatti is a 6. Those guys sparked guys with jaws and not in accumulation.

at 135- if he was desperate and needed to land big shots to stay in the fight, he had short bursts of power around 8, but mostly 6-6.5

at 140- 147 his power decreased tremendously to around 4.5

    At 130-135 it's 8/10
    At 140-147 it's 6,5 -7/10

At 130lbs, a definate 8. Starched Ruelas, dropped a durable Patterson in the first fight, racked up a whole bunch of kayos on the way up, and polished off Rodriguez in brutal fashion after taking an early beating. Certainly was capable of taking a fighter out, or, hurting him badly with his punches.

As he went up in weight, his power diminished, but never entirely disappeared. Dropped the super-durable Ward in their second fight. Dropped Branco as well. Stopped Dorin with a single hook to the body. He could still hit pretty hard, even at 140lbs.
