after reading in boxing news this week the article on frankie gavin, frankie talks about james degale and his gold medal and all the boo's that go with it. do u think if frankie won a gold medal do u think he would get the same treatment.

    Thoughts for discussion:bbb

    Doubt it.

Winning the gold medal places a lot of expectation on Degale and quite frankly he hasn't performed on a few occasions.

Gavin on the other hand has done everything right thus far.

I think the fact that DeGale is an arrogant brat is one of the main reasons why he is booed. In contrast, Gavin seems quite a down-to-earth bloke on TV and in interviews and has also joined this forum and talked at length with his own fans which is something that most sportsmen/women wouldn't do, IMO. Although I don't condone it, I can see why one is booed and the other isn't:good.

No, because I think it is DeGale's personality that grates on people and thus causes the booing, however wrong it is.

Degale is trying to be a showman and its clearly a fake persona which is one of the reasons why they boo.

The hate on DeGale started the seconded he won the gold medal, literally if you go to the RBR thread from the olympic final.

DeGale reminds me of the groups of cocky kids in a shopping centre that really **** you off but you cant do anything about it as there under 18.

In his defense, I think DeGale has always been that way and didnt change after winning the gold.

I think if DeGale had entered the pro game never going to the olympics, say he didnt qualify, and had had the same 5 performances, only seeing glimpses on friday fight nights, people on here would be talking him up.

Gavin is a likeable character. he has got the hatton/funtime frankie birmingham city fan thing going on.

the hate on Khan was just dumb. people saying he would never get to british title level.

Booing seems to be one of them subjects that you're either for or against. Kind of like when i go to watch my footy team play, if i think its been crap, and not worthy of my £450, then i'll boo at the end of the game only, never during.

So them fans at the NIA obviously weren't too impressed with his performance/attitude etc, and thought they were within their rights to boo, and i dont blame them.

The only way to get the fans on-side is to get your head down, stop yappin, and perform in the ring, then the doubters will be converted.

    Exactly.

And not to use the usual fighter's favourite line.

''You've never boxed, so what do you know?''

It is, but it seems to be something that is getting worse and worse, at the darts, football, big brother, whatever it is it seems to have become fashionable to boo.

Even worse is its an embarassing noise/word and seeing grown men do it is absolutely cringeworthy.
