Gavin, who missed out on boxing at lightweight at the Games when he couldn't make the weight, was 10'3 1/2, isnt that 3 and a half pounds over the light-welterweight limit. Gavin's opponent weighed 9st13lbs

And Saunders was 11'7 1/2, just over the middleweight limit, I thought he was a welterweight??? his opponent was 11st 1lb.

Gavin did not look in good condition. http://www.youtube.com/user/frankwarren

    DeGale looked in good shape

It depends what you mean by overweight. They are non-title fights, Gavins weight is no surprise for a guy who wants to fight at lt welter. Don't forget that the amatuer weight classes are different from the pro ones so Saunders being a welter in the ams is closer to being him being a lt middle in the pros (152 lbs).

What would the point be for a non-title fight?

I agree to an extent, not under weight perhaps but bang on

If he plans to campaign at light welter 143 1/2 is not good. It's not even close.

not surprised gavin came in at 143 im a welter but always get told to come in at 150 i think thats the norm why shift the extra 3 pounds if u dont need too? was more surprised at saunders weight i thought he was gunna be a welter looked in good shape at middle cant see him getting anywhere near welter

Saunders is gonna fight at 154 by the looks of things. Very shocked he's so far over.

143 is a good weight for somebody hoping to campaign at 140 :?

degale is fighting at mw and darren is smw, it looks as though degale has cut quite a bit of weight he looks very skinny, very surpised at this maybe he should of started his easier and earlier fights at smw then dropped down to middle, too many times cutting to mw will ruin him, going by body types i cant see degale performing well as a pro

What has body type got to do with it? This isn't bodybuilding. Joe Calzaghe would have been an utter failure with his skinny body at weigh ins.

he is tall lanky, skinny whatever you want to call it, calzaghe wasnt as skinny as what degale is, just seems to me as though degale is going to be open to shots especially the body, he will really need his razzle and dazzle to keep a fighter like abrahams at bay

what is it with gavin and the weight issues? is the lad serious about boxing or what. i agree, i figured he'd come in bang on, or as near as. degale seems to be the only one with any real ambition and good luck to him. gavin especially seem, to me at least, to be not that interested in the whole thing or he's believing the hype of how good he is, and he aint THAT good anyway. the pro's is a different game to the amateurs, which he'll find out pretty quickly. as we know, amateur stars don't always make it big in the pro's.
