It was great corner work from Coldwell and great by Gavin to take on board the advice. A lot of times fighters acknowledge what corners are saying but don’t put it in to practice. But he did to devastating effect.
Your right there very good all round fighters. It's very hard to beat a fighter that doesn't have major flaws and is a good all rounder. What I like about Gavin is he keeps getting better, he obviously works very hard to improve his game. Remember a couple of year back thinking English level is his limit then couple of fights later thinking British level then later European level, now I have stopped even trying to guess. Dave Coldwell has done a great job with him.
I too thought Yafai would have a little bit too much class for him. I was totally wrong. McDonnell boxed really well and began to throw some really nice combinations too. I knew he was fundamentally solid, but he showed a more audacious attitude as the fight wore on.
Did YOU find it boring? I mean you yourself personally. Or do you mean boring for the casuals? If a boxing fan couldn't find something to appreciate in Gavin's performance then maybe he isn't such a great boxing fan as he thinks he is.....just saying....
I personally found it boring. I appreciate what he did in the ring but I didn’t enjoy watching it. Tbf to him he did ramp it up and almost got Yafai out there late so I appreciate he’s not going out there intending to bore people.
I did feel that if gav brought his A-game he would have enough to outpoint Yafai. Fantastic performance.
We'll in t least your straightforward about it. It wasn't riveting action, I know, but it WAS quality boxing. Personally I liked it anyway.
Some people will never give the Mcdonnell's the recognition regardless of performance. Thoroughly enjoyed watching the way he boxed. Only criticism would be a lack of power because Yafai was there for the taking in Round 10.
McDonnell was excellent on the night and took gamal to school. Gutted I never put a bet on with the odds going
