He might well be, but I'd like to think that Ricky would display more of an ability to not get hit so easily. Broner was superb the other night, but I still want to see him fight Burns.
solid FACT (as in Broner being too fast and too powerful for Burns, who knows what Rees really blabbed)
That WAS suppose to be his legit test for the haters.... BUT.... He smoked demarco out of the water and then they flipped and said he was extremely over-rated anyhow.... The reality was that DeMarco was a champion in a weak division. Though a legit test (B+, A- at his best moments), he was never going to be a strong champion, though appeared so because the division was weak. IMO, Broner is a proven and legit A caliber champion.... blowing REES out of the ring when he wanted didn't prove his caliber?
Im personally of the opinion that Rees is correct, Broner will smoke Burns BUT I don't think we should pass on seeing the fight because of this. As someone else basically said it's still only opinion until it becomes reality. I WANT the fight to be made, hopefully Ricky gets past Vasquez and then steps up because I feel he has been less than enthusiastic about the prospect of facing Broner too.
I think Rees is right but it wouldn't be an easy fight for Broner. Ricky would cause problems for him it it wouldn't be a mismatch like Broner's last few fights.
If Burns manages to beat Vasquez it will be a much bigger win, Katsidis, Mitchell, Moses were top ten and Vasquez is arguably number 1 at lightweight. I would favour Broner over Burns vs Vasquez winner but out of the light weights they stand the best chance to cause Broner problems they are both tall for the weight and will try to use lateral movement and to their a advantage and won't try to stand and trade. Everyone wants Broner to move up to 140 lbs but before that he should try and fight Burns vs Vasquez winner and Abril vs Bogere winner unifying WBC, IBF, WBA, WBO and Ring Titles.
he got too much credit for beating De Marco, American TV was saying he just moved up and beat the number 1 at 135.
This. He deserves credit but no where near as much as people are trying to give him. And of course Rees is going to say this, provided he is aiming to stay at lightweight regardless of Burns' future results he is going to want to fight him at some stage as fighters here make good money facing each other, I can't picture any kind of interest if Rees was going to say 'Burns is better than Broner' because that would imply a non competitive bout. He could also be telling the truth, but that isn't for certain.
Yes Burns has sparred Rees, their trainers are friends. Derry Mathews spars alot with Burns, he picked Mitchell to beat Burns and look what happened there. It doesnt mean ****.
Ricky Burns is too good for Gavin Rees, hence the reason Rees has to accept being a third or fifth choice opponent with a few weeks' notice. Sour grapes from someone who may have taken too many punches the other night. If he thinks it,and he has a relationship with Ricky, then maybe he could say it to Ricky first before telling the world. And even though perspicacity has an embarrassingly disgraceful vcash total, like him I'm a tad worried about Broner.I've always known he was good, and I know Rees can plod at times, but I'm starting to worry that Broner's chin is rock solid. I'll never write Ricky off though.
Let be honest Burn nor Vazquez has shown me anything special that even make me think they can deal with Broners speed let alone the power and skill that accompanies it.
I believe Broner would defeat Burns quite comfortably. Burns looked good against Mitchell but he was still flailing wildly at times. I just think he's a class below, which pains me to admit as i would love nothing more than Burns to derail the Broner train........
