    The WBA Lightweight rankings prior to Saturday nights vacant title fight were as follows;

    1. Richard Abril
    2. Sergio Thompson
    3. Brandon Rios
    4. Yuriorkis Gamboa
    5. Gavin Rees

    With Rios failing to make weight he did not win the title. Sergio Thompson is now in line to face Antonio DiMarco for the WBC title. Gamboa has several legal issues and its unlikley he will fight in the next 6 months.

    This could leave Abril, who should retain his high ranking with the WBA after losing a controversial split decision, and the next avalible contender who should be bumped up to number 2/3 in the ratings next time around.

    Rees-Abril for the vacant title seems like a good fight to make.

    Who promotes Rees?

    He already has.

    This is excellent news. I've always felt he was an underrated overachiever. Two weight world champion and then a unification with Burns?

    Lovely jubbly.
