Gavin Rees Update

Thay had WBO titles, same belts Eubank and Super Joe made a career out of defending.

The point is they are worse world champs than Rees. Simples

Rohdes at middleweight was not a good fighter if you new your onions you would be aware that he is prob like 2-2 at the weight and lost to the legend that is Lee Blundell, better than Ress my anus. Massive Failatsch

 

Overall he's a much better fighter then rees, you have no argument whatsoever. Lee Blundell loss aside he was still good enough to give Otis Grant a decent argument and beat the likes of Silky Jones etc. Whose Gavin beaten? Name one fighter on his record who had a place in the top ten in the UK let alone the world. A decent performance againsy Mbaye doesn't make you a great fighter. Just very fortunate that he was fighting such a poor champion for a title.

I've got nothing against Gavin, a talented little operator but you making out that he was a legit world champion? MBaye was nothing more then a paper champion with a plastic belt who was further exposed by youngster Barrie Jones a few months later. Jones beat him too.... Does that make Jones better then Ryan Rhodes, Paul Jones and Mallinaggi as well. GTFO.

 

Thats your opinion and fair enough, Rees's record is prob inferior in many ways as Rohdes has had loads of fights and Rees has spent most of his career eating chips and getting pissed, but the fact is M'baye was a legit world champ at the time and Rees moved out of his weight division and soundly beat him, what is Rhodes best win? I am a Rhodes fan but to say he is far better and that I have no argument - as you say GTFO

Besides all I am saying is that Rees is not the worst Champ i've seen. Silky Jones beat Verno Phillips on points and dissapeared without trying to defend for whatever reason which you have to agree is a **** poor title reign. Jason Matthews only beat Rhodes because Rhodes was never a middle and prob got lucky with a big shot early (watched the fight but was years ago) he then lost it straight away by stoppage to a Euro level fighter.

 

Jones beat a good proper champion and failed to defend after failing to agree terms with Bronko McKart. Jones travelled for the fight but there was a contractual dispute and he pulled out leaving Mckart to fight Winky for the vacant title. As opposed to Rees who got smashed to pieces by Kotelnik. Great reign that.

And how was MBaye a legit world champion? He won the vacant title stopping Raul Balbi who was KO'd by Leonard Dorin at lightweight a few fights earlier he then drew with Kotelnik and then got beaten by Rees. Its hardly Duran, Leonard and Benitez is it??

The reason he never defended it is irelevant he never did and thats that, Jones than went into a British title fight with Ryan Rhodes when Rhodes was about 12 and got sparked, this is the same rhodes who got KO'd by Blundell or do my facts not count only yours?
Whos better p4p Dorin or Blundell??, shall we agree to disagree.

Directed at me? If so do you really expect me to spend hours arguing the merits of Gavin Rees based on one title fight with someone who has no knowledge of the fighters he's comparing them too. Antonio Fernandez do you know who that is (hooch)? Donavan Boucher? Damen Denny? Johnson Tshuma? Danny Juma?

I don't need to guess what kind of fighters they were by looking at the records because I watched them with my own eyes. And you try telling me about Gavin Rees like you know all about the domestic scene but can't give one decent argument in favour of your opinion other then Leonard Dorin is better then Lee Blundell p4p.

Thats why I can't be arsed debating further. I was actually having a bit of a crack so stop whinging.

It doesn't really bother me as I don't have to read it I just don't think it reflects all that well and makes someone, who otherwise makes a good contribution to the forum, seem like a bit of an arse.
