May have been a thread on this but I haven't see one. Good domestic fight. Not sure if it has been confirmed yet Haven't seen Watson since he outpointed Martin Gethin in a tough fight on Setanta on one of Hayemakers old shows. He fell off the radar ever since then (anyone know who hes with now?) Has he got a chance against Rees? Who apart from winning Prizefighter had done sweet F.A since losing his title to Kotelnik, he did look decent in fights in Prizefighter but can he handle the long distance in his new weight class?
Watson has been sparring Joan Guzman and has made good progress in the gym (apparently). Its going to be a hell of a tough night for Watson to come through this. He did struggle with Gethin and Rees does pretty much everything better than him. Fascinating fight IMO.
I honestly find it hard to pick a winner in this one. John Watson has shown in the past against Ben Murphy that he can deal with someone that is similar to Gavin Rees, and Watson looked pretty good in that fight. But, Rees is quite a step up from Ben Murphy and the one time Watson went beyond 6 rounds he almost got stopped in the last round of a scheduled 10 rounder against Gethin, yet Watson has improved since then. Can Watson keep a high pace, keep Rees at bay and stay in their for the full 12 rounds? That's what makes it a very intriguing one IMO. I tentatively pick Rees, but that pick might change the closer we get to the fight.
Think Watson's lack of experience will cost him here but it still could be domestic FOTY candidate. Really good fight :bbb
Rees does look in the best shape he has been in for some while and Watson looks ripped also should be a ******* this one
