Gavin Rees vs Anthony Crolla

I can't see anything other than Crolla going out on his shield late on. Everyone is talking about Crolla establishing a jab etc, I can't see that ever happening. He'll pop that jab out , Rees will use his head / foot movement and come in over the jab with a right hand so often Crolla will stop throwing it and will elect to trade in what will be a fight of the year candidate. Unfortunately for Crolla he doesn't have the power or endurance at lightwight to win this type of a war with Rees.

Slightly off topic, i've been speaking to Arnie about getting my mate down to train with him. I think he will turn pro after the under 20s ams later in the year. hes a banger and i think he could do well in the pros. He will be middle/light middle

Called Danny Brelsford, he's held his own sparring luke blackledge over at kevin marees gym. Had great spars apparently

Macky your clutching at straws mate sorry,Rees won a world title,euro tile against better fighters than Anthony even you being a fan of his must admit that.
The only reason IMO Anthony stepped up in weight was because he was to fight John who got stopped against Rees in is only previous 12 rounder, he was on paper a strong strong fav,the question you should ask yourself is what hes Anthony done since? beat a weight drained Willie Limmond,stopped by Derry and in many peoples eyes also lost the rematch.
Wereas Gavin has won the euro title defended it in Paris and of coarse lost to a excellent Broner but he in no way took a beating no way at all?
To draw a comparison with Gavin and Watson is so far out mate

Billy....Crolla no way lost the rematch to Derry. And it certainly isn't in many peoples eyes. The majority thought Crolla nicked the rematch, no way should the 1st have been stopped either. Derry was knackered in the 1st fight and if it continued would have been stopped himself.

Drawing a comparison isn't so far out mate, Watson gave Rees major problems and a rematch was set for Liverpool thinking Watson could win the rematch. The 1st fight was close i think. Fair enough, Crolla hasn't done much since, but neither has gavin. He has beat an overrated Derry Mathews who in my opinion got lucky twice against Anthony, Beat Andy Murray on points, and got completely outclassed by Broner and it was clear he was in miles too deep. Gavin is no spring chicken at 33 and i think if Anthony boxes smart, stays out of range in the early stages, take the snap out of gavins punches, takes it late and works the body i would like to see how gavin reacts to that. Crolla has a great engine and can go 12 hard rounds. I cant remember the last time gavin did that.

It's a closer fight than people think and i just hope Anthony does himself justice and sticks to the gameplan. I am under no illusions that he is the underdog in this fight. Rees is a big favourite, but to write Crolla off is wrong. He CAN win this fight.

If Anthony couldn't get anywhere near stopping Derry he's no chance of stopping Gavin,Corolla is skilful but doesn't punch hard

Is Rees stronger than Mathews ?

I havent really seen enough of Rees to tell. Looks to me like he is . I like Crolla he is a super boxer but he couldnt really handle Mattthews power. If Matthews had any skill to back up his power he could and should have put Crolla away.

The only reason you say arnie is because you have befriended him i can think of a few who would suit him way better your friend ship with theses people clouds your judgement :thumbsup

As you say though, he hasn't got time on his side so taking him down to an established pro trainer where he will be training around some good pros can only do good things for him. p.s I haven't befriended anyone, i merely had his number and dropped him a text, the reply was bring him down. I don't spend my life hounding folk like a certain p.c haven't got time for that nonsense. I've a new baby to look after
