Gavin Rees vs. John Watson RBR

Jason Cook vs. Barrie Jones is beginning now, scheduled for 10 @ 140lbs.

 

Round 1

Jones keeps Cook in his sights with his right jab working diligently. Cook keeps his guard up when standing still and blocking but drops his hands as he moves, looking for spots to lay a few punches on the body. Jones overall the better ring general; neither landed much of consequence.

Jones 10-9

 

Round 2

Cook tries to barge in and swing in high loops at the taller man's head. Jones is spinning his way out of clinches and using his feet and right jab to comfortably outbox Cook. Jones lands a left uppercut to the body but doesn't follow up as Cook just sits coiled on the outside. Jones leaves a feeling out jab hanging lazily and then flips it around into a hook that Cook ducks. Cook is unable to get off a counter in time.

Round 3

Cook switches southpaw and loops a few midlevel punches before switching back and posturing on the outside. Jones waits on him, and Cook walks through a few jabs in order to land a hard right hand, which affects Jones a bit. Cook is really getting into an offensive groove now, diving beneath the right jab of Jones now and resurfacing in position to touch him up as much as possible before Jones either clinches or hops out of the pocket. Jones reasserts his jab in the last ten seconds but still lost the round.

Round 4

Jones jabs at the moving target. Cook is swallowing some of them and slipping others, but not able to successfully land anything of his own so far halfway through. Cook flailing widely when he slithers in close but really telegraphing everything and allowing Jones to parry and sidestep with ease. Jones is still spinning out of clinches and getting right back on the jab. Cook lunges in with a right hand and has his head snapped back by a stiff jab delivered as Jones was backing up.

Round 5

Cook is driving in with slapping right hands and elevating some nice hooks. Jones starts to move his head a little and ducks the charges. Cook lands a really nice left hook from the outside. Jones is still scoring quite a bit with the jab but is getting roughed up a lot more this round. Another hook lands behind the ear of Jones.

Very tough round, maybe a slight edge to Cook.

48-47 Jones

 

Round 6

Jones is landing a southpaw 1-2 now instead of just relying on the jab alone. Cook is keeps his hands high and his feet moving toward Jones but is getting timed and sniped. Cook's hands begin to whirlwind low as he rushes in and he gets off a few to the body. Enormous right hand lands on the jaw for Cook, out of a crouch! Jones doesn't recover as Cook swarms him with body punches and Jones goes down. He is up at 8 and IMMEDIATELY back down from a liver hook. Jones gets up but walks away and shakes his head - quitting!

 

Pretty much all the British experts and a couple of boxers (Nathan Cleverly & John Murray) are tipping Rees.
